For over 20 years, Hana has proudly provided trusted officers to the Department of Defense, safeguarding military bases, personnel, and critical facilities. Our Security Officers are the front line of safety, ensuring those who defend our nation can carry out their missions confidently and without interruption. With Hana’s extensive security experience, you’ll have the training, standards, and team support to succeed in this vital role.
Position Summary
As a Lieutenant working in our Norfolk, Virginia region, you will assist in leading the Security team to uphold the highest standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism in accordance with contract requirements, client expectations, and company policies.
At the site, you will safeguard the facility, manage access control, conduct patrols, deter unauthorized activity, and respond promptly to security incidents—all while providing exceptional customer service. Your vigilance, judgment, and leadership help ensure the safety and readiness of this historic military installation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership. Each Lieutenant is responsible for working with the Site Manager to foster a “one-team” culture among the team. Under a “one-team” culture, the Lieutenants are expected to adhere to our Core Values and support each other to ensure the security and safety of the site and Company employees. We have five Core Values:

-We live Pono (honestly and honorably)
-We strive for excellence.
Positive Work Environment. Each Lieutenant is responsible for working with the Site Manager to create a positive work environment for all employees where we adhere to our Core Values and treat each other with dignity and respect.
Schedule Implementation. Each Lieutenant is responsible for working with the Site Manager to implement schedules developed by the Program Manager, to include, among other things, the timely publication of the schedules, backfilling unscheduled call-offs, and making last minute modifications to the schedules to avoid unexpected open posts, all in accordance with Company policies and procedures and applicable CBA commitments.
Guard Force Discipline. Each Lieutenant is responsible for maintaining work discipline among the officers to ensure the effective security of USSC and Company employees in compliance with all Contract requirements, applicable laws and regulations and Company’s policies and procedures. Each Lieutenant works with the Site Manager to address performance violations in conformance with the Company’s Progressive Disciplinary Policy and other applicable policies.
Attendance. Each Lieutenant is responsible for ensuring all officers report to work on time and for relieving officers in the event of early departures due to illness or other unexpected event. Working with the Site Manager, each Lieutenant is responsible for the fair and consistent enforcement of our attendance policy in accordance with our Progressive Disciplinary Policy.
Performance Recognition. Each Lieutenant is responsible for working with the Site Manager to create a work environment where excellence is rewarded. This includes, but is not limited to, the implementation of the Company’s Spot Award Program and other award programs in a fair and consistent manner and in compliance with our Core Values and applicable Company policies and procedures.
QC Inspections. Each Lieutenant is responsible for conducting inspections at the beginning of their shifts and periodically thereafter. Each Lieutenant is also responsible for assisting the Site Manager with implementing our Quality Control Program. This may include, as an example, testing knowledge of their post orders, visitor directions, and other matters relevant to their duties.
Alertness. Each Lieutenant is responsible for visiting all posts throughout his/her shift to ensure that our officers are alert and attentive to their environment. Each Lieutenant is also responsible for conveying situational awareness regarding developing events.
Safety Each Lieutenant is responsible for inspecting the surrounding work environment for potential hazards and reminding officers of seasonal safety concerns (e.g., adverse weather conditions, pandemic, slip and fall risks during the winter) in accordance with our Safety Plan. Ensure all officers handle their firearms responsibly, maintaining proficiency in accordance with company and regulatory standards
Administration. Each Lieutenant is responsible for performing administrative tasks as required by the Site Manager, including, but not limited to, preparing work reports and other documentation, conducting investigations, payroll timekeeping, drafting policies and other similar administrative support requested by the PM.
Emergency Backfill. Each Lieutenant is responsible for backfilling a post in an emergency to prevent an opening or weakness in the security perimeter.
Support Hana’s mission and uphold company standards of ethics, integrity, and professional excellence at all times.
Other Duties. Each Lieutenant may be asked to perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager to ensure the effective and efficient security operations in fulfillment of the Company’s mission.

Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of Supervision experience in security, minimum of 3 years of experience working as an Armed Security Officer (commercial or law enforcement) in the last five (5) years; or minimum of two (2) years of honorable service as a member of any US Armed Forces
Must be proficient using firearms (9mm and AR-15)
Age: Be at least 21 years of age or be an honorably discharged veteran
Background: Must not have felony convictions and no convictions for domestic violence crime
Proof of Legal Residency: Must be a U.S. citizen. Dual citizenship is prohibited
Communication: Speak and be literate in English to the extent of writing, reading and understanding printed regulations, orders, instructions, etc
Licensure / Clearance
Possess a valid current state-issued driver’s license
Have current or able to obtain VA DCJS (Armed)
Have current or is able to obtain a DoD Clearance.
Job Qualifications: Successfully meet all of the following
Medical Health Evaluation : Physical exam, Visual, Auditory
Physical Abilities Test: 1.5 mile run in less than 17.30 min/ 19 push-ups in 2 min
Be able to wear duty belt (20lbs), stand, walk, run, remain alert.
Training Academy (paid): Upon Hire, must be available to successfully complete mandatory 2-week training. Includes classroom, tactical, firearms range, OC/ Baton, CPR/ First Aid
Compensation & Benefits
During Training Academy, you will be paid at a training rate.
Upon successfully completing all requirements of the position, you will be paid as a Security Lieutenant at:
Hourly Pay: $ 26.82 + Health & Welfare of $5.50 earnings per hour
