The Opportunity
Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective internal controls to safeguard enterprise assets
Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting
Assure that all accounting is done in accordance with GAAP including evaluation of stipend and patient accounts receivable, evaluation of payroll and other liabilities, and maintenance of ownership equity
Generate GAAP basis entity financial statements and departmental and practice related income statements and balance sheets
Convert GAAP basis medical group income statement and balance sheets to cash basis for cash basis income distributions and for tax return preparation
Present Financial information to CFO, Finance Leaders, Audit committee, Board of Directors and C-Suite.
Annually determine both the cash basis and accrual basis net income of the Medical Groups to facilitate the calculation of the profit distribution percents and provide information to allocate all the profits to the individual partners
Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Assures that supporting documentation is maintained for all balance sheet natural accounts and reconciliations are completed timely
Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
Review of expenses incurred on behalf of multiple entities such as software (MRI) costs, accounting services, analytical services, and assures the appropriate controls are in place to correctly allocate the expense to entities and departments.
Facilitate the annual “soft -landing” for cash basis financial statements including determination of the cash basis profit distribution percent and analysis of Qualified earnings.
Reviews and approved total qualified earnings is calculated correctly based on the partnership agreements and board policy.
Review all corporate and partnership tax returns prepared by our Tax advisor (as of 2020: 22 Federal and state Partnership returns, 16 corporate federal and 26 Corporate state returns)
Develop tax strategy with tax advisor and present to CFO at least annually
Provide information for and understand composite tax filing for partnerships
Review and understand all state and local tax
Understand tax compliance for each state and work with Tax advisor to create state specific tax strategies
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
Reviews and analyzes financial information needed to complete corporate and partnership tax returns
Reviews all internally generated corporate and partnership tax returns (13 entities both state and federal)
Reviews and approves the annual engagement letter for all tax returns (2020 budget is approximately $370,000)
Assure timely, accurate compliant bi-weekly payroll for partners (monthly), advance providers, on site employees and office employees
Approve payroll related policies and procedures
Recommends insurance strategy at least annually related to Cyber, Workers Compensation, General Liability, Malpractice and EPL. Recommends purchasing commercial insurance or self-insuring.
Evaluates potential liabilities and assures proper reserves are reported on financial statements
Performs high level analytical review procedures on gross to net payroll
Assures that billing fees charged to the practices are properly reconciled to billing fees paid to billing agents
Assures that malpractice charged to the practices are properly reconciled to malpractice paid to insurance companies
Reviews and approved the master lease file and assures compliance with GAAP reporting
Reviews and approves allocations of our self-insurance workers compensation plan.
Assures that the Accounting and Payroll departments goals are aligned with the enterprise’s strategic plan
Mentor, guides and develops staff to achieve their career aspirations
Evaluates staff’s performance and develops career tracks
Approves hiring and terminations for entire department
Presents case for salary increases to C-Suite
Reviews and approved related staff compensation policies and procedures
Determines vision and direction of resource allocation for accounting and payroll
Required Experience and Competencies
15+ years of related accounting experience required.
5+ years of financial accounting management experience required.
5+ years of HealthCare experience required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, accounting, economics or a related area required.
CPA or CMA required.
Completing cash- and accrual-basis financial statements for Partnerships preferred.
Solid understanding of US tax code preferred.
Big 4 or mid-level accounting experience preferred.
MBA preferred.
Knowledge of US GAAP.
Knowledge of US tax code related to partnership and corporate tax.
Knowledge of US auditing standards.
Knowledge of the Vituity policies and procedures and regulatory requirements relating to general compensation.
Knowledge of the concepts, standards, and methods for auditing compliance.
Ability to express ideas and convey information effectively in verbal and written communications.
Ability to keep abreast of new/current laws, regulations and common/emerging practices.
Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations to varying groups and sizes.
Ability to maintain flexibility, cooperation and participate in cross-organizational performance improvement activities.
Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level of proficiency.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
