Full job description
Build the next generation of digital experiences
At Alphero, we're creating and composing the intelligent digital experiences of the future.
For more than 14 years we've partnered with organisations across New Zealand, Australia and the United States to design and deliver digital products that improve how people live, work and play. Chances are you've already used apps and websites we've helped create.
Today we're evolving again. Alongside designing and building exceptional digital products, we're exploring how AI, intelligent services and composable technologies are changing what's possible. Our teams are helping clients navigate that future while continuing to deliver beautifully crafted, accessible and secure digital experiences today.
We're looking for an experienced iOS Developer who enjoys solving complex problems, cares about quality, and wants to be part of shaping where mobile development goes next.
The role
As an iOS Developer at Alphero you'll work across the full product lifecycle, from early technical thinking and architecture through to delivery, release and ongoing evolution.
Agency life means variety. You might be joining an established product, helping shape a brand new mobile experience, contributing to discovery work with a client, or collaborating with our wider team to solve a tricky technical challenge. Every project is different.
You'll work closely with designers, strategists, QA specialists and other developers to build products that are intuitive, reliable and enjoyable to use. We believe the best ideas come from collaboration, so while we offer flexible hybrid working, we're very much an in-person team.
What you'll be doing
Building outstanding iOS applications - Develop high-quality native iOS applications using modern Swift, contributing to architecture, implementation, performance and maintainability across the products you work on.
Delivering beautifully crafted customer experiences - Work alongside designers and testers to create experiences that feel polished, accessible and genuinely enjoyable to use.
Working with modern engineering practices - Use contemporary tooling, automation and AI-assisted development to help you move faster while maintaining quality. We see AI as another engineering tool, one that helps developers spend more time solving interesting problems and less time writing repetitive code. Thoughtful engineering judgement, review and craftsmanship still matter.
Contributing to our practice - Share ideas, mentor others where appropriate, stay current with the Apple ecosystem, and help us continually improve the way we build software.
You'll probably have around 4-8+ years of professional iOS development experience and be comfortable working across the different layers of a modern mobile application.
You'll have extensive experience with:
Swift and modern iOS development practices
UIKit and/or SwiftUI
API integration and networking
Authentication and secure data handling
Local persistence
Performance optimisation and debugging
Writing clean, maintainable and well-structured code
AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar
Building applications with security, privacy and accessibility in mind
It would also be great if you've worked with some of the following:
CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
App Store release processes
Cloud-connected platforms and API development (particularly AWS-based services)
Mobile analytics and monitoring
Kotlin Multiplatform or other shared-code approaches
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who's curious. Technology is changing quickly and we're investing heavily in understanding how AI and emerging technologies will shape the next generation of digital experiences. We want developers who are excited to learn, experiment and help define what good engineering looks like in that future.
This is a New Zealand-based role working from one of our offices in Wellington or Auckland.
You'll join a team that genuinely cares about building great products and helping each other improve. Our developers work alongside experienced designers, strategists and testers in cross-functional teams, giving you the opportunity to influence products well beyond the code you write.
Our values of Inventive, Emotive and Brave aren't just words on a wall. They show up in the way we work with clients, the way we support one another and the way we're investing in what's next.
If you're looking for somewhere you can build exceptional mobile experiences today while helping shape the future of digital tomorrow, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a New Zealand-based role working from one of our offices in Wellington or Auckland.
Inventive. Emotive. Brave.
Our promise: digital products that feel human, deliver great business outcomes, perform reliably and stay adaptable as 2030 comes rushing in.
Alphero creates and delivers digital products that serve people now, and are designed and architected to stay relevant in 2030. Since 2011 we’ve partnered with organisations across Aotearoa NZ, Australia and the US to turn complex ideas into simple, joyful experiences—while making sure the plumbing (cloud, data, AI) is solid enough for the long run.
How we help
Advice from our experts. From high-level strategy, road-maps, future CX vision, future state architecture, resource models, operating-model guidance and other business case inputs; to practical advice on everyday digital things.
Design that feels. Emotional, UX, agentic and holistic design connecting heart to purpose across mobile, web and emerging endpoints.
Software engineering that lasts. Composable, maintainable full-stack build from native apps and complex web products to intelligent, resilient, scalable back-ends in the cloud.
Alphero Intelligence. Our R&D lab where we explore the future, then fold the learnings into client projects.
Industries we know:
Health, finance, energy, media, government, transport, agribusiness, retail. Big enterprises, and bold start-ups alike. We treat every client as a partner and every engagement as a shared journey to the future.
Bold digital. Better world.
