Position Summary
Develops and conducts training courses for customers (internal or external). Conducts technical and related training programs both at Company sites and off-site as needed to teach, mentor, coach and/or monitor students attending courses or using Training equipment/facilities. Assists in the creation of training programs, including outline, text, handouts, and tests, and designs laboratory exercises, applying knowledge of all or some of the following: welding, surgical instrument repair, electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, software, and following equipment documents. Demonstrates procedures being taught, such as Preventative maintenance, surgical instrument repair, applying knowledge of all/some of the following, welding, electrical /electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, and pneumatics, using hand tools, measuring instruments, testing equipment, and following course outlines. Responsible for individual assignments relating to these duties, and those required to support the tasks and classes assigned. Performs department equipment maintenance when necessary and contributes to the training effectiveness of the group. Accepts assignments that require both domestic and International travel as required by the department. Maintains own levels of expertise in instructional design and delivery techniques, product knowledge and curriculums which are required to meet the responsibilities of the position.

The period of time necessary to become fully proficient in this position will vary with the individual, background and skills but is generally 8-10 months.
What You'll Do as a Technical Trainer I
Key Functions
Performs classroom duties as required to train STERIS and CUSTOMER personnel according to assigned curriculums. These duties include, but are not limited to, classroom lecture, group discussions/role plays, testing and evaluation, interactive/distance training, etc.
Performs Lab/Practicum duties as required to train students according to assigned curriculums. These duties include, but are not limited to, Performance/Demonstration of hands-on tasks, lab monitoring, testing and evaluation, etc. Promotes safety and safe work practices at all times, and advises students of Company practices/procedures as they relate to their job, as well as to the STERIS Service Training facilities.
Evaluates students enrolled in classes with the Service Training department. Evaluation devices include written tests, lab practical exercises, one on one encounters, and discussions of course materials. Communicates his/her evaluation to appropriate parties (per company policy) when required to do so. Counsels students and recommendations remediation to students on an as-needed basis.
Additional Functions
Teach "customized" or individualized courses when necessary to accomplish the mission of the Department. Performs assignments requiring Domestic or International travel, as required by the Technical Training Manager or approved designate.
Organize and develop, or obtain, training procedure manuals and guides and course materials such as handouts and visual materials. Creates and utilizes prepared and approved lesson plans and course materials when teaching classes.
Works as a team member to incorporate changes to the curriculums as needed. Will use the approved procedures to initiate and document all required curriculum and/or materials changes.
Maintains product and technology knowledge at levels needed to reflect current industry standards. This is done using all available Steris documents, industry bulletins and publications, and other similarly recognized (STERIS) authoritative documentation.
Maintains instructional and presentational competencies to be able to conduct any of the training available through the Service Training department.
Present information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.
Build experience in assessing training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers, instructors or customer representatives. Work as a team member to offer specific consultative advice to help workers maintain or improve job skills. Attend meetings and seminars to obtain information for use in training programs, or to inform management of training program status.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required:
Minimum Associates Degree in relevant Science or Instructional background.
Certified in an approved instructor training program and/or
2-4 years experience in formal (adult) training; industrial, vocational or technical training.
Preferred:
Bachelors Degree in Sciences or Technologies highly preferred.
STERIS field experience a strong plus.
Database program experience is a plus.
Other:
Must possess clear oral and written communication skills. Must have strong ability to mentor colleagues in all areas of training expertise to enhance other instructor’s skills.
Must possess the ability to develop lesson plans based on available curriculum materials, including course outlines, equipment manuals, engineering materials.
Must be able to support the development of training aids, including simulators, e-learning courses, video presentation, distance learning, etc.
PC experience in word processing, E-Mail, spreadsheets is required;
Must be able to demonstrate understanding of the products and technologies covered by this assignment
Must be able to read and interpret technical documentation, such as electrical and plumbing schematics, diagrams, Isometric and sectional drawings, etc
Equivalent experience may be considered as replacement for some of these requirements.

Pay range for this opportunity is $60,000 to $68,000.00, depending on skillset and experience. This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
