Position Summary
Teach For All is seeking an entrepreneurial, strategically minded Director of Philanthropic Partnerships to expand support for its global work from the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a dynamic role designed for someone who thrives on identifying, cultivating, and securing the support of new high-net-worth individual (HNWI) donors for an inspiring and important cause.
The ideal candidate can create an active network within the Bay Area's globally-minded philanthropic circles (tech, venture capital, and international development advocates) in support of Teach For All’s work and is mission-driven, strategic, and an exceptional communicator who can build relationships and create partnerships with sophisticated entrepreneurs, including those in the next generation of philanthropists. The role will collaborate across Teach For All’s global programmatic and development teams and report directly to the CEO.
About the Team
The Global Development team is responsible for inspiring a global community of supporters and ensuring Teach For All has the financial resources necessary to accomplish our mission and vision. We work to catalyze a global constituency of champions who fuel our work all over the world.
Responsibilities
As Director of Philanthropic Partnerships, your key responsibilities will include:
1. Sourcing, Building & Cultivating Relationships (60%)
Actively map and prospect the Bay Area High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) landscape for new potential champions for Teach For All and/or our 60+ independent network partners
Leverage your existing network and build new bridges into tech, venture capital, and global philanthropic ecosystems to grow the base of support for our work
Build deep, trusting relationships with a diverse range of entrepreneurs and philanthropists, resulting in significant new first-time investments in Teach For All
Design and execute creative personalized cultivation strategies, leveraging Teach For All’s CEO, program leadership, network partners and/or current champions
2. Strategic Positioning (40%)
Conceptualize and execute creative strategies to elevate Teach For All’s profile, positioning the organization as a high-impact philanthropic priority for Bay Area tech leaders, founders and HNWIs
Design and curate donor and prospect experiences (e.g. dinners, fireside chats, school visits)
Identify and partner with key Bay Area champions to host targeted events, leveraging their personal networks and social capital to grow support for our work
Develop new ways to compellingly convey Teach For All’s approach, theory of change and impact for Bay Area audiences, articulating it effortlessly in both formal writing and casual conversation
Represent Teach For All at events across the Bay Area, sometimes acting as a proxy for our CEO, to grow our organization and network’s visibility
Qualifications
Bay Area Connected: 10+ years of experience and relationships in the Bay Area, with a network across high net worth sectors
Mission Driven: Energized by mobilizing resources towards this important global cause
Relationship Builder: An intuitive reader of people who builds trust quickly and can navigate networks with humility and confidence, connecting dots that others miss
Intellectual Agility: Strong critical thinking skills and ability to engage in high-level discussions with highly analytical donors
Autonomy & Drive: A self-starter who is energized by a blank canvas and comfortable operating independently
Exceptional Communication: Ability to convey nuanced, complex ideas simply and persuasively with diverse audiences
Previous development experience not required
Additional desirable skills
Prior experience as an alumni and/or leader from within the Teach For All network is preferred
What Teach For All Offers
Commitment to cultivating a culture in which all staff members feel they belong, are valued for their contributions, and have an impact on our organization’s progress
Professional and personal development experiences and ample opportunities to make a positive impact on the work of Teach For All and beyond
Comprehensive benefits package designed for your well-being and work-life needs
All roles are 100% remote; in some locations we offer the option for in-office collaborations
Generous time off and flexible work arrangements
