Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio, an Affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, empowers the young people who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens by providing high-quality and impactful out-of-school time programming for youth in grades K-12. BGCCO serves 4,000 youth per year throughout Central Ohio.
Youth Development Professional (YDP) practice is to provide children and teens with high-quality experiences that support their current and long-term success. Staff utilize our five key elements for positive youth development, based on research that studied many Clubs’ best practices:
Create a safe, positive environment
Generate fun and foster a sense of belonging
Encourage supportive relationships with peers and adults
Provide opportunities and set expectations
Offer recognition for positive behavior
A successful YDP will have the ability to recognize young people’s contributions and accomplishments, while working alongside other club staff. Have the capabilities to help members reframe conflict, identify their feelings, and understand the relationship between emotion, behavior, and consequence.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities:
The Youth Development Professional is responsible for independently implementing core BGCA curriculum, programs, services, and activities for Club members in a safe, positive, and age-appropriate environment. This role maintains a program area schedule that reflects the diverse interests and abilities of youth while supporting social-emotional skill development and encouraging positive behavior.
Essential responsibilities include contributing to a healthy and safe Club environment by helping maintain facilities, equipment, and supplies; managing member conduct through appropriate redirection and problem-solving strategies; and maintaining accurate daily and monthly attendance records during programming using My ClubHub. The position also requires flexibility to fulfill assigned duties at a designated BGCCO Club location, travel to other Clubs within the market as needed, and review email daily to remain informed of important organizational updates, schedule changes, program information, staffing communications, and other time-sensitive notices necessary to support effective Club operations.
Training & Meeting Requirements
Responsible for meal service operations which include receiving food from vendors, ensuring the meal count is accurate at point of service, and compiling the monthly meal count record and daily time log. • Attending the annual CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), and once during the summer for the SFSP (Summer food service program).
Boys and Girls Club of America required program training
Attend scheduled staff meetings, and supervisor 1:1
CPR plus, not required
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
One year of direct work-related experience working with youth preferred; experience may include volunteering, summer camps, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, teaching, or similar youth-focused roles. or two years of relevant experience.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365, and basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
CPR certification
Pursuing post-secondary education in a related field such as education, youth development, recreation, sports management, health and wellness, social work, or a similar field aligned with the scope of work.
Work Environment & Schedule
Boys & Girls Club of Central Ohio offers youth programming 12 months a year, some weekends may be required.
School Year Programming: August – May; hours range from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Summer Programming: June - August; hours range from 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM.
Onsite/in-person at a designated work location.
Position will also on occasion perform the role at community partner venues, other club facilities, outdoors, or other events within the BGCCO territory.
