Responsibilities
The Senior Manager will act as an internal consultant to lead decision quality initiatives, facilitating workshops and providing analytical support for high-stakes portfolio decisions. They will also build internal capabilities, develop decision-support tools, and mentor colleagues to embed a consistent decision-making culture across the organization.
Requirements
Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in decision science, portfolio strategy, or management consulting, with a strong background in biopharma or science-based industries. An advanced degree such as an MSc, PhD, or MBA is required, along with proficiency in decision analysis methods and the ability to facilitate complex cross-functional discussions.
Lundbeck’s ability to deliver transformative medicines depends not only on strong science, but also on making high-quality choices about where, when and how to invest. These decisions are often made under significant uncertainty and require teams and leaders to balance patient impact, scientific risk, development timing, commercial value, strategic fit and limited resources.
To strengthen these choices, Lundbeck is building Decision Quality (DQ) as a practical enterprise capability across R&D, Commercial, Chemistry Manufacturing Controls (CMC), portfolio management and governance. The ambition is to make clear decision framing, meaningful alternatives, transparent assumptions, explicit trade-offs and disciplined commitment, a more consistent part of how important decisions are prepared and made.
Lundbeck will scale this capability through dedicated DQ expertise, fit-for-purpose decision support, integration with governance and portfolio processes, common tools and guidance, and an internal community that can apply practical DQ habits in day-to-day work.
The Senior Manager, Portfolio Analyst & Decision Science, will help lead this expansion. The role will serve as a hands-on internal consultant to project teams, functional leaders and governance stakeholders, while also building the practices, tools and internal capability needed to make DQ a sustainable and repeatable way of working.
Why this role matters
Demand for DQ support now spans R&D, CMC, governance preparation, portfolio questions and training workshops.
A community of internal colleagues can scale common language and basic practices, but high-stakes framing, portfolio trade-offs, leadership facilitation and complex decision support require dedicated expertise.
The role reduces key-person dependency, increases decision-support capacity and helps embed DQ as a repeatable way of working rather than an occasional workshop.
The role strengthens Lundbeck’s ability to make clear, transparent and aligned choices under uncertainty.
Your new role
Key responsibilities:
Strategic decision consultation and facilitation
Partner with Global Product Teams (GPTs), and portfolio stakeholders to frame high-value decisions before teams move into solution mode.
Facilitate practical DQ workshops and alignment discussions that clarify the decision, objectives, alternatives, trade-offs, assumptions, uncertainties and commitment requirements.
Help teams convert complex scenario work into decision-ready recommendations with clear asks, logic, alternatives and conditions for confidence.
Create an environment where constructive challenges, divergent thinking and transparent trade-offs improve decision quality rather than slow decision-making.
Support preparation for governance forums by improving the quality of framing, option development, assumption transparency, recommendation logic and meeting materials.
Portfolio decision science and analytical support
Collaborate with R&D Finance and GPTs:
Apply decision analysis methods such as decision trees, sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, probabilistic modelling, risk assessment and multi-criteria decision analysis where appropriate to the decision need.
Develop, review and improve decision models, business cases and trade-off analyses used to support portfolio, project and investment decisions.
Help teams identify which uncertainties matter most, which assumptions are most relevant, and what analysis would meaningfully change a decision.
Prepare and synthesize portfolio analyses, key messages, decision points and supporting exhibits for SPC pre-reads and meeting discussions in partnership with the Senior Director, Portfolio Decision Science.
Ensure analysis is decision-relevant, transparent and proportionate - avoiding unnecessary modelling when a lighter DQ approach is sufficient.
Governance and process enhancement
Help define practical standards, tools and templates for decision framing, DQ readiness, scenario comparison, assumptions management and decision-ready recommendations.
Work with governance stakeholders to improve the consistency and quality of decision materials, pre-reads, SPC meeting materials and leadership discussions.
Develop simple checkpoints that help teams assess whether a decision is ready for governance or requires more framing, alternatives, assumption work or stakeholder alignment.
Capture lessons learned from major decisions and translated into improved practices, examples and reusable guidance.
Capability building and DQ community development
Help build and sustain an internal DQ community made up of colleagues across functions who can champion and apply practical DQ habits in their teams.
Design and deliver training, coaching and mentoring that makes DQ accessible, pragmatic and scalable across Lundbeck.
Develop case studies, examples and playbooks that show how DQ improves real Lundbeck decisions.
Coach colleagues on facilitation, framing, alternatives generation, assumption transparency, and decision-ready communication.
Contribute to a culture where good decision-making is recognized as an organization culture, not an individual capability.
Your future team
You will work closely with the Senior Director, Portfolio Decision Science and the broader Corporate and Portfolio Strategy team to strengthen decision quality across key enterprise and project decisions. You will combine practical facilitation, analytical discipline, strategic judgement and capability building. You will also support Strategic Portfolio Committee (SPC) activities, including portfolio analysis and the development of clear, decision-ready materials for SPC meetings.
The position is based in Valby, Denmark, with hybrid working possible.
What you bring to the team
Experience
Typically, 5+ years of relevant experience in decision science, portfolio strategy, strategic planning, management consulting, operations research or related discipline.
Candidates with fewer years of experience may also be considered where they demonstrate strong relevant capabilities and organizational knowledge.
Experience supporting complex cross-functional decisions in biopharma, healthcare, life sciences or another science-based industry.
Demonstrated ability to work with senior stakeholders and project teams on ambiguous, high-consequence decisions under uncertainty.
Experience facilitating workshops or leadership discussions where objectives, alternatives, trade-offs and assumptions must be made explicit.
Experience building or reviewing business cases, scenarios, decision models or strategic recommendations is strongly preferred.
Technical and analytical capabilities
Strong understanding of decision quality principles and practical decision analysis methods.
Ability to apply methods such as decision trees, sensitivity analysis, probabilistic modelling, scenario planning, risk assessment and multi-criteria decision analysis when appropriate.
Comfort working with quantitative models, assumptions, uncertainty, value drivers and trade-offs; experience with tools such as @RISK, Analytica, DPL or similar platforms is an advantage.
Ability to distinguish between analysis that is decision-relevant and analysis that adds complexity without improving the decision.
Strong written and visual communication skills, with the ability to turn complex analysis into clear, decision-ready messages.
Leadership and collaboration capabilities
Strong facilitation presence and the ability to guide technical, cross-functional and senior audiences through structured decision discussions.
Credibility across functions, Portfolio and governance environments.
Ability to create constructive challenges without making discussions adversarial.
Pragmatic mindset: able to scale the DQ approach to the decision need rather than applying a heavy process by default.
Comfort operating both as a hands-on contributor and as a capability builder who develops others.
Education
Advanced degrees such as MSc, PhD, MBA or equivalent experience in decision science, operations research, business administration, life sciences, engineering, economics, statistics or a related field.
Formal training in decision analysis, decision quality, portfolio management, strategy, facilitation or related methods is an advantage.
Mindset
Practical and outcome-oriented: focused on improving real decisions, not promoting process for its own sake.
Curious and structured: able to slow teams down just enough to solve the right problem before jumping into solution mode.
Transparent and rigorous: comfortable making assumptions, uncertainty and trade-offs visible.
Collaborative and humble: able to partner with technical experts without needing to be the content expert in every domain.
Resilient and influential: able to work in ambiguity and help teams move from debate to commitment.
Target candidate profile
The strongest fit is a DQ / portfolio strategy professional who can operate as a trusted advisor to cross-functional teams and leaders, while remaining a hands-on contributor rather than a primarily technical analyst.
Strong facilitation, decision framing, portfolio trade-off and advisory experience, with the potential to grow into broader enterprise leadership responsibilities.
Ability to help teams move from scenario work and functional perspectives to clear, decision-ready recommendations.
Enough analytical fluency to guide, challenge or review modelling and assumptions, while keeping the role focused on decision quality, strategic judgement and enterprise adoption.
Credibility to coach internal DQ champions and build capability across functions without becoming a purely methodological or modelling resource.
