The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes.  The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations. 

The HKPM is seeking an Assistant Manager, Museum Publishing and Editorial to embark on the museum’s ambitious and innovative exhibition and publication projects as well as digital initiatives. Reporting to Manager, Museum Publishing and Editorial, the incumbent works with internal teams to support the publishing process and editing work in order to produce high quality of museum’s publications for diverse audiences.

You will be responsible for:

• editing and proofreading the museum’s publications, exhibition didactics, and other text materials in close collaboration with other departments / teams;
• managing the editorial process and communicating with internal and external authors and other service providers to enforce production schedules are met;
• maintaining the museum’s style guides and other editorial guidelines for publication;
• working closely with internal parties as well as the Authority departments to ensure consistency in content and language of all published materials;
• assisting in managing project budgets, expenditures and procurement process;
• supporting daily administration works, inventory and storage management;
• assisting in coordinating and collaborating with internal and external parties, including but not limited to drafting agreements with authors, contributors, and other contractors, and supervising their work; and
• performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.

You should:

• possess a recognised university degree in Languages, Literature, Art History, History, Journalism, or other relevant disciplines;
• have solid editing experience in creating innovative and solid publication production in English or Chinese in the arts and cultural fields, English language editorial and translation skills is preferable;
• have at least 5 years of experience in editing art, design and culture related publications or materials. Copywriting and work experience gained from or with museums or art and cultural related organisation is a plus;
• possess outstanding editing skills and good industry knowledge about publications for different audiences, book design and imaging, as well as meticulous attention to details and accuracy, knowledge of or connections with international and the Mainland publishers or distribution channels is a plus;
• have experience and knowledge of publishing process and managing editorial work, possess InDesign and typesetting skill is a plus;
• outstanding writing skills or experience on art and culture, especially for the general public is an advantage;
• have excellent organisational and project management skills, be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and be able to manage multiple projects concurrently;
• be a good listener and team-player with ability to work well with multiple parties with diverse perspectives; and
• possess strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese, knowledge of Putonghua is an advantage.
