M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. The museum reflects our unique time and place, building on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 1-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance)
(4 days/week, duty time: 09:15-16:15)
Role and Responsibilities
Assist in educational programme development and delivery for a wide spectrum of audiences—from school and community groups to family and kids, professionals and adult learners;
Deliver programme plan with a deep understanding of their objectives and intended outcomes;
Facilitate audience engagement through various formats, such as tours, workshops, talks, and drop-in events, in M+ galleries and other museum spaces;
Contribute to programme evaluation and quality assurance by participating in test runs and leading debriefings with other Museum Educators and ensuring delivery aligns with museum standards;
Assist in visitor research to identify interests and needs of audiences;
Assist in design, development, and implementation of trainings for Museum Educators and preparation of related materials;
Assist in supervising the members of the Museum Educator team to ensure a quality performance;
Maintain learning programme materials in various museum spaces and ensure that programme venues are up to museum standard;
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of M+’s values and collections, current exhibitions, and upcoming educational events to enrich the visitor experience;
Follow institutional uniform, health and safety guidelines;
Perform any additional tasks when required; and
Perform any other duties from time to time as reasonably assigned by M+.
Qualifications
Possess a recognised university degree in Arts Education, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Early Childhood Education, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, Language and Communication, Journalism, Hospitality, Public Relations, or a related field;
Demonstrate strong interest in arts education and working at the contemporary museum;
Have teaching diploma or 2–3 years of relevant experience of being an instructor, docent, or facilitator at arts and cultural organisations, colleges, or universities;
Fluent in Cantonese and English; proficiency in Mandarin is advantageous; knowledge of other languages is a plus;
Proficient in written Chinese and English;
Be able to work on weekends and holidays;
Be able to work independently with strong on-the-spot problem-solving skills; and
Be highly-organised and patient with strong communication skills, and a willingness to collaborate with others.
