Build and evolve enterprise data pipelines and shared platforms that deliver trusted, reusable digital services across government—while growing your software engineering capability alongside experienced practitioners.
We are seeking an Associate ICT Developer to join a multidisciplinary digital and data delivery team within the NSW public sector. The role contributes to the design, build, testing and support of software and platform components that underpin enterprise data pipelines, shared services and digital platforms used across the organisation.
Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will apply established development standards, take ownership of the quality of your work, and build technical capability through hands‑on delivery across data‑centric and platform‑based solutions. This role is ideal for an early‑career software developer who enjoys learning through delivery, values collaboration, and has an interest in building reliable, scalable systems that support enterprise‑wide data and digital services.
About the team
This role sits within the Enterprise Architecture, Data and Innovation team in the NSW Telco Authority.
The team delivers a combined software engineering, platform development and data production capability across the organisation. It designs, builds and operates the digital infrastructure that enables secure access to, and aggregation of, information from multiple business domain systems.
Using modern software engineering practices and medallion architecture principles, the team builds scalable and reliable data pipelines and enterprise platforms that consolidate master and operational data into trusted, reusable information assets and shared digital services.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, configure, test and maintain software components under guidance, contributing to enterprise data pipelines, services and platform components in line with agreed standards and quality expectations.
Write and maintain code using approved languages, frameworks and tools, following coding standards, security practices and documentation requirements
Configure and support system components and environments as directed, including application settings, integrations and deployment configurations across development, test and production environments
Work within defined development and delivery practices, including source control, CI/CD pipelines and approved change and release processes
Investigate and resolve routine technical issues, researching solutions and escalating appropriately when issues exceed experience or delegated authority
Collaborate effectively within a delivery team, participating in code reviews, documenting work and communicating risks or issues clearly and professionally
Support work planning and coordination by contributing to backlog activities and providing operational support to senior engineers and the Section Head as required

To be successful in this role you will have
Industry‑based software development experience, with the ability to write, test and maintain code under guidance using approved languages, frameworks and tools
Experience working to established development practices, including source control, CI/CD pipelines, environment‑based deployments and basic security controls
An understanding of data integration and application development concepts, including data ingestion, transformation and lifecycle principles
Problem‑solving skills for technical tasks, including researching issues, proposing practical solutions and escalating appropriately when required
Strong collaboration skills, with experience participating in team delivery activities such as code reviews and shared ownership of service outcomes
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work, follow direction and raise risks or issues in a timely and professional manner
Desirable skills
Exposure to agile delivery practices, including planning activities, backlog refinement and team ceremonies
Experience assisting with system or application configuration, including environment or integration configuration under guidance
