Main Duties
Evaluate insurance applications, financial records, medical information and other documentation to determine eligibility and risk level.
Analyze risk factors and calculate appropriate premium rates, coverage limits and policy exclusions in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
Review and renew existing policies, adjusting terms based on claims history, market conditions and updated risk assessments.
Collaborate with insurance brokers, agents, claims staff and other stakeholders to clarify coverage, resolve issues and ensure accurate documentation.
Prepare and maintain thorough underwriting files, reports and correspondence for audit, regulatory compliance and management review.
Use underwriting software, databases and analytical tools to perform risk modeling, portfolio monitoring and trend analysis.
Requirements
Post-secondary diploma or degree in insurance, finance, business administration, risk management or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in underwriting, risk assessment, or a related insurance role.
Solid knowledge of insurance products, policy wording, coverage types and underwriting principles.
Proficiency with underwriting systems, databases and standard office software such as spreadsheets.
Strong analytical and numerical skills with keen attention to detail and sound decision-making ability.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with brokers, agents and internal teams.
