Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for delivering about one quarter of the Alberta government’s Capital Plan, which addresses the provincial infrastructure needs of Alberta’s population that support key social programs and services and economic development.
The Ministry designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that school and hospital infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. Infrastructure also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.
Properties’ Programs & Integration Unit is the primary point of contact and resource, for the regional offices within the Properties Branch, for business, technical, systems, and process expertise, with the goal of facilitating uniformity, continuous improvement, and innovation in relation to property management practices. Programs & Integration is accountable for knowledge management and consistency relating to Properties business, accommodations, major maintenance, facilities management, and project delivery processes, as well as for providing associated training, and identifying and promoting the application of best practices.
This position is a key resource within the Building Support Team, reporting to the Building Support Manager. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of Properties’ Security Framework. This includes developing and continuously improving security policies, processes and procedures; defining roles and responsibilities related to security in the Properties Branch; providing tools and delivering training to staff in Properties; and monitoring the effectiveness of security initiatives.
The primary responsibilities for the Physical Security Advisor include, but are not limited to:
Developing policies, procedures, and standards to establish a Minimum Standard of Security for GoA owned and leased facilities and buildings.
Implementing processes and mechanisms to track and monitor status of physical security measures, protocols, and solutions in place for GoA owned and leased buildings and facilities to facilitate information sharing and cost effectiveness, mitigate liability, and improve safety and security of employees, visitors, and assets.
Responding and actioning requests for security assessments on GoA owned and leased buildings in accordance with established priorities and guidelines.
Developing reports pertaining to physical security assessment findings for consideration of senior decision-makers, including identification of security deficiencies, threats, and recommendations for potential solutions.
Developing and delivering physical security awareness presentations to diverse audiences, including Properties representatives and clients (staff from ministries, boards and agencies).
Identifying opportunities to enhance awareness within the GoA of physical security protocols and guidelines through training and education initiatives and develops associated recommendations and responses.
Providing input and expertise to stakeholders managing physical security projects, including reviewing project scope statements, descriptions of requests, specifications, deliverables, and requests for proposals, and assisting with evaluation of proposals from consultants and vendors and development of associated contracts.
Performing post-project reviews to ensure projects are in compliance with physical security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
