The Senior Software Engineer will lead software development projects, write code, and create design specifications. They will also assist in system architecture, perform testing, and provide coaching to other engineers.
The role requires 5-8 years of experience with a degree, or 9-12 years of equivalent experience without a degree. Candidates should possess advanced knowledge of software engineering practices and project leadership skills.
Job Characteristics: Assists in leading software development projects through phase gate process. Writes significant amount of the code that meets project requirements and complies with documentation and design standards. Writes the standard documentation used to translate project needs into software design specifications. Assists in creating overall architecture for various software systems. Corrects defects found through QA software testing and systems testing. Assists in requirements gathering and product definition activities as projects start, and supports field test personnel after development. May coach other engineers, and occasionally provides direction to testing and lab support personnel. Activities address challenging aspects of code, documentation development, and contribute to oversight of software team work product.
Education/Work Experience: Typically requires a degree and 5-8 years experience; or no degree and 9-12 years combined education and equivalent work experience (typically 1 year experience = 1 year education).
Independence Level/Reports to: Applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Leads projects/research with moderate complexity. May provide coaching and review the work of lower-level professionals. Normally reports to Software Engineering Manager.
