Full job description
About us
Founded in 2017, Wayve is the leading developer of Embodied AI technology. Our advanced AI software and foundation models enable vehicles to perceive, understand, and navigate any complex environment, enhancing the usability and safety of automated driving systems.
Our vision is to create autonomy that propels the world forward. Our intelligent, mapless, and hardware-agnostic AI products are designed for automakers, accelerating the transition from assisted to automated driving.
In our fast-paced environment big problems ignite us—we embrace uncertainty, leaning into complex challenges to unlock groundbreaking solutions. We aim high and stay humble in our pursuit of excellence, constantly learning and evolving as we pave the way for a smarter, safer future.
At Wayve, your contributions matter. We value diversity, embrace new perspectives, and foster an inclusive work environment; we back each other to deliver impact.
Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!
The role
As a Senior Engineering Technician, you’ll play a pivotal role in building and scaling the engineering operations that enable Wayve’s autonomous vehicle platform. You’ll lead a small team of Engineering Technicians while remaining deeply hands-on, partnering closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Systems and Software Engineers to rapidly prototype, integrate, troubleshoot and validate cutting-edge hardware. This is an opportunity to bring proven technician expertise into a fast-paced robotics environment, establishing best practices while helping the team move quickly without compromising quality.
Key responsibilities:
Lead, mentor and develop a team of Engineering Technicians.
Own day-to-day lab operations, hardware bring-up, integration and vehicle support activities.
Execute and oversee electrical, mechanical and system-level builds, modifications and repairs.
Partner with engineering teams to diagnose complex hardware and integration issues across development programs.
Develop and improve technician workflows, lab processes and documentation to increase efficiency and quality.
Support prototype builds, validation activities and engineering change implementation.
Drive a culture of safety, craftsmanship and continuous improvement within the technician team.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Senior Engineering Technician at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential
5+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician or Engineering Technician Lead supporting complex hardware products.
Previous experience leading or mentoring technicians while remaining an active technical contributor.
Strong hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical assembly, integration, debugging and rework.
Proven ability to troubleshoot multidisciplinary hardware issues independently in fast-paced development environments.
Experience supporting prototype and low-volume hardware builds through rapid design iterations.
Comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly documentation.
Experience working closely with Electrical, Mechanical and Systems Engineering teams to resolve integration challenges.
A strong understanding of lab equipment, test instrumentation and safe working practices.
Demonstrated ability to establish technician best practices, improve workflows and raise execution quality.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks across multiple engineering programs.
Strong communication skills and the confidence to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
Desirable
Experience supporting autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, automotive or other complex electromechanical systems.
Familiarity with vehicle electrical systems, wire harness fabrication and integration.
Experience managing engineering labs, inventory and calibration processes.
Experience implementing lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
Comfortable using Linux, scripting tools or basic software utilities to support engineering workflows.
Experience working with PLM, ERP or engineering change management systems.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent practical experience.
This is a full-time role based in our office in Sunnyvale, and the reasonably estimated salary for this role ranges from $209,700 to $266,800, plus a competitive equity package. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home. We operate core working hours so you can determine the schedule that works best for you and your team.
Wayve is committed to creating an inclusive interview experience. If you require any accommodations or adjustments to participate fully in our interview process, please let us know.
We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.
At Wayve we're committed to creating a diverse, fair and respectful culture that is inclusive of everyone based on their unique skills and perspectives, and regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding) or any other basis as protected by applicable law.
DISCLAIMER: We will not ask about marriage or pregnancy, care responsibilities or disabilities in any of our job adverts or interviews. However, we do look to capture information about care responsibilities, and disabilities among other diversity information as part of an optional DEI Monitoring form to help us identify areas of improvement in our hiring process and ensure that the process is inclusive and non-discriminatory.
At Wayve, we’re building a global driving intelligence that learns from data and scales across different vehicles and geographies.
Founded in 2017, we have pioneered an end-to-end AI approach to autonomous driving that is faster to deploy, more flexible by design and built to scale.
We deliver all levels of autonomy, from hands-off and eyes-off driving, to robotaxis. We license and integrate the Wayve AI Driver as a vehicle-agnostic software platform that runs entirely on onboard vehicle compute and native sensors.
