Primary Purpose of this Position:
Coordinate and support production operations by managing CNC programming, robotic welding system data, material management information and production workflows to ensure safe, efficient and accurate fabrication in accordance with DWS standards.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate and improve information flow between engineering, production and robotic welding operations to enhance production performance.
Utilize and improve the use of material management and scheduling systems to provide CNC data and project information to production personnel.
Create, modify and maintain robotic welding programs and CNC data in accordance with production requirements.
Demonstrate one-team and lean culture through daily actions and communication.
Consistently meet expectations related to Safety, Quality, Productivity, Attendance and Teamwork.
Maintain complete understanding of production routing and scheduling processes to support efficient production flow.
Maintain complete understanding of material management systems, cutting list procedures and inventory processes.
Maintain complete understanding of nesting processes and material utilization practices.
Maintain complete understanding of revision control procedures and production documentation requirements.
Maintain complete understanding of DWS welding procedures and robotic welding system capabilities.
Interpret drawings, gather sheets and production documents to support fabrication and programming requirements.
Troubleshoot and work with production, engineering, detailing and other departments to resolve complex system, process and programming issues.
Train team members on material management systems, CNC programming procedures and robotic welding programming processes.
Work with detailing personnel to improve information flow between detailing software, material management systems and vendor-specific CNC software.
Understand robotic welding system operation and support production personnel with programming and operational issues.
Communicate with robotic welding equipment manufacturers and software providers to investigate and resolve technical issues.
Provide support to robotic welding operators and production personnel as needed.
Complete required documentation, reports and timecard entries accurately and timely.
Attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned by management.
Work scheduled hours consistently and reliably with minimal supervision.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read, interpret and utilize structural drawings, gather sheets, cut lists and production documents.
Strong understanding of production routing, scheduling and fabrication processes.
Strong understanding of material management systems and inventory procedures.
Strong understanding of robotic welding systems, CNC equipment and programming concepts.
Knowledge of welding processes, welding procedures and fabrication practices.
Knowledge of structural steel modeling and detailing software, including Tekla.
Ability to utilize computers and software systems including Microsoft Office applications, material management systems, scheduling systems and CNC programming software.
Ability to effectively communicate with production personnel, detailing personnel, engineers, supervisors, managers, vendors and equipment manufacturers.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to train others on software systems, programming procedures and production processes.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Ability to possess pride in workmanship, demonstrate attention to detail and work safely.
Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing production requirements.
Physical Demands:
Stand OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
Walk OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift. The distances walked will range from a distance of a few feet to several hundred feet.
Sit FREQUENTLY to CONTINUOUSLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
Lift weights up to 30 pounds OCCASIONALLY from floor to head level, which includes the various prints, books, binders, and papers utilized to perform the usual work duties.
Lift weights up to 50 pounds RARELY to OCCASIONALLY from floor to chest level, which may include boxes of papers, books, etc.
Carry weights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to several hundred feet. 50 pounds would be carried 50 feet. Lifting devices are available.
Climb OCCASIONALLY onto steps or ladders.
Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing the regular job duties. Tasks would include looking in filing cabinets, removing supplies, and restocking paper in the copier. The position will be held continuously for a few seconds to a few minutes, depending upon task.

Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 10 feet to plug in equipment, retrieve dropped materials, etc.
Reach forward OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to perform job duties or to retrieve tools. The employee will OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY be required to reach to full forward extension.
Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to retrieve books, supplies, etc.
Push and pull drawers open OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to retrieve tools or supplies.
Gross finger dexterity skills required operating the mouse utilized in the course of standard job duties. Fine finger dexterity is not required.
Non-Material Handling Demands:
Employee is expected to work 40 hours a week. However, hours including overtime and weekends may be required based on Drake-Williams Steel’s needs.
Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues
Visual ability to read and interpret shop drawings. Safety glasses are required in the shop area.
Exposure to heat, cold, wet and humid conditions in the shop area OCCASIONALLY.
Exposure to fumes, odors and dusts in the shop area OCCASIONALLY.
Exposure to solvents, greases, oils, and coolants OCCASIONALLY.
Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.
Tools Required:
Pencil, Square, Tape Measure, Markers, and other miscellaneous office supplies.
Experience and Education
High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in manufacturing, drafting, welding, engineering technology, construction management or related field preferred.
Two years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, production planning, detailing support, CNC programming, robotic welding support or a related steel industry environment preferred.
Experience reading and interpreting shop drawings, gather sheets and production documentation preferred.
Experience utilizing material management systems, production scheduling systems, CNC programming software or related manufacturing software preferred.
Experience programming for robotic welding systems preferred.
Knowledge of structural steel detailing software, including Tekla, preferred.
Basic knowledge of structural welding and fabrication processes preferred.
