Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of Zoo facilities through sweeping, mopping, and restroom sanitation. Perform minor maintenance tasks and ensure a positive guest experience through professional communication.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and must be at least 18 years old with a clear background check. Preferred experience includes one year of relevant cleaning work and knowledge of occupational safety rules.
The custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of Zoo facilities by performing various cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation, often using specialized cleaning equipment and chemicals, to ensure a hygienic and functional environment for occupants; they may also perform minor maintenance tasks as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Custodial Manager.
Full-time positions are defined as positions scheduled to work approximately up to 40 hours a week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager. This position regularly requires flexible hours including weekdays, holidays, and weekends including early morning, daytime, and evening hours to provide coverage during Zoo hours of operation and events.
This position is considered non-exempt under the federal and state wage and hour laws.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee will frequently work in alternate settings between indoors (office environment) and outdoors (Zoo grounds). When outdoors this position is required to work in various weather conditions including rain, humidity, and extreme heat or cold. This position has extensive interaction with the public.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position requires frequent standing/walking/bending/kneeling/crouching and may occasionally move or lift objects up to 50 pounds.
