Full job description
We’re On the Beach! Since 2003, we've been rewriting the rules of how people discover, book, and experience their perfect getaway. What started as connecting people to short-haul beach holidays has evolved into something much bigger - premium beach destinations, long-haul adventures, and vibrant city breaks – and that’s just the beginning of our story.
We send around two million holidaymakers on their dream breaks every year. And we're still growing.
Powered by our deep-rooted entrepreneurial spirit, proprietary tech, curiosity and our incredible people, we’re accelerating - delivering best in class technology, the ultimate holiday app, and experiences that keep our customers coming back for more.
Ready to build the future of travel with us?
About the Role
We’re looking for an Analytical Engineer to help shape the trusted data models, metrics and semantic layers that power decision-making across On the Beach.
This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, business intelligence and emerging AI capabilities. You’ll help turn refined data into reliable, reusable and well-documented analytical products that can be trusted by teams across the business.
You’ll play a key role in making sure our data is not only accurate and well-modelled, but also easy to understand, easy to use and ready to support future AI-enabled analytics.
What you’ll be doing day to day
As an Analytical Engineer, you’ll work closely with Data Engineering, Analytics, Product, Commercial and Technology teams to create high-quality analytical data products.
You’ll help define and maintain the business logic, metrics and semantic structures that sit between our data platform and the teams using data every day.
You’ll be responsible for:
Designing, building and maintaining trusted analytical models, transformations and semantic definitions across key business domains
Creating clear, reusable metric definitions that help ensure teams are working from a consistent source of truth
Working closely with Data Engineers to define requirements between refined data layers and business-ready analytical products
Building and improving dbt models, tests and documentation to support reliable, well-governed analytics
Helping shape semantic layers that support BI tools, modern analytical workbenches and emerging AI use cases such as natural language analytics and text-to-SQL
Improving data quality through testing, monitoring, validation and clear ownership of analytical models
Partnering with stakeholders to understand reporting and insight needs, then translating them into scalable, maintainable data products
Supporting self-service analytics by making data easier to discover, understand and use across the business
Exploring how AI-assisted tools can improve analytical engineering workflows, including SQL review, test generation, documentation and quality checks
You’ll be a great addition to our team if you have the following skills, knowledge and experience
Strong SQL skills and experience building analytical data models in a production environment
Data modelling approaches such as dimensional modelling, star schemas, metric layers or similar
Working with dbt or similar transformation and orchestration tools
Building semantic models or reusable business logic for BI, analytics or self-service reporting
Working in cloud data environments such as Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake or similar
Applying engineering practices to analytics, including Git, pull requests, testing, documentation and CI/CD
Improving data quality, lineage, governance and trust across analytical datasets
Working closely with analysts, engineers, product teams and business stakeholders to turn complex requirements into practical data solutions
Communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
Making pragmatic decisions in fast-moving environments, balancing quality, usability and delivery
Nice to have
Experience with enterprise semantic layers or tools such as Hex, Looker, Cube, dbt Semantic Layer or similar
Exposure to AI-enabled analytics, text-to-SQL, natural language interfaces or agentic data workflows
Experience using AI tools such as Claude, Gemini or similar to improve SQL development, testing or documentation
Understanding of how AI agents consume structured data, metric definitions and business context
Experience working with data contracts, medallion-style architecture or silver-to-gold data modelling patterns
What success looks like
Success in this role is about helping the business trust and use data with confidence.
You’ll create reliable analytical models, clear metric definitions and reusable semantic layers that support better decisions across the business. You’ll help reduce ambiguity in reporting, improve the quality of business-ready data, and make our analytical products easier to find, understand and reuse.
You’ll also help us prepare for the next generation of data consumption, where AI tools and natural language interfaces rely on well-structured, well-documented and trusted data foundations.
What to expect from our interview process
We’ll run a multiple stage interview process, on Teams/ Google meets which will consist of a Hiring Manager meet & Greet, Behavioural and Technical.
We want to make sure everybody has the opportunity to perform at their best. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the interview process please let the Talent Acquisition team know and they will be happy to assist.
Ways of working Our full time hours are 37.5 per week, but we don't have rigid working hours so you can find the working pattern that's right for you. We have core working hours between 10am - 4pm, so we can collaborate and enjoy the social side of work.
We also have hybrid working so we all work from home and from our Aeroworks office in Manchester City Centre. You’ll be in the office one day every two weeks, and you’re more than welcome to come in more if you’d like.

Hola!
We’re On the Beach. There’s over 500 of us, mostly at home, and sometimes in our office in Manchester.
We send nearly two million people on holiday every year (not together) and we’re expecting to get to three million pretty sharpish. Why? Because we’re the only holiday company who truly gets why going on your holidays is the best week or two of the year.
Better than birthdays. Better than Christmas. Better than the Monday after the Easter holidays, when the kids go back to school. It’s a time when the rules are relaxed, caution is thrown to the wind, and life’s simplest pleasures are truly indulged in. And because we get all of that, we work flipping hard to make our customers’ holidays last even longer.
With our market-leading offers, scalable, flexible and innovative technology, strong customer-value proposition and low cost base, we’re challenging existing players and redefining how customers book, manage and experience their holidays.
And it doesn’t stop there. With huge opportunities for growth, we’re on a long-term mission to become Europe’s biggest and most loved online retailer of beach holidays, so our story’s only really just begun…
