Job Summary
As a Social Worker specializing in student support on a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) campus, your primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive services to ensure the well-being and success of students. As a Social Worker you play a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Essential Functions
1. Collaborate with the Lincoln University Health and Wellness offices (Counseling Services, Spiritual Life and Activities, Health Services, and The Division of Inclusion and Belonging Centers)
2. Student Support: Providing individual and group services to students facing social, emotional, academic, or personal challenges. Offering a safe and supportive space for students to discuss their concerns and develop coping strategies.
3. Crisis Intervention: Responding to and managing crisis situations such as mental health emergencies, conflicts, or emergencies affecting students. Facilitating CARE Team meetings, Collaborating with campus departments: Public Safety, Health Services, Counseling Services, and other departments to ensure student safety.
4. Advocacy and Outreach: Advocating for students' needs and rights within the campus community and beyond. Developing programs and initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus.
5. Referrals and Resource Coordination: Connecting students to external support services, such as mental health professionals, housing assistance, financial aid, or legal services. Coordinating with campus departments to provide holistic support to students.
6. Educational Workshops: Organizing workshops and training sessions on topics such as mental health, stress management, healthy relationships, and conflict resolution. Empowering students with knowledge and skills to navigate college life successfully.
7. Collaboration and Networking: Building relationships with campus staff, faculty, and community organizations to enhance support services for students. Participating in interdisciplinary teams to address student needs comprehensively.
8. Documentation and Evaluation: Maintaining accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes. Evaluating the effectiveness of support programs and making recommendations for continuous improvement.
9. Assist with managing the Health and Wellness Ambassadors Leadership Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in social work, counseling, Human Services, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience working in a post-secondary environment coordinating student program and support services for disadvantaged and/or underserved populations. Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student population. Minimum Job Requirements:
• Must have the ability to write reports including the use of Microsoft Office Applications, such as Excel, Word, and Canva.
• Must have the ability to navigate and create content on social media, such as Instagram,Twitter, and Facebook.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people from varied social, educational, and economic backgrounds.
• Must be able to work without constant supervision, make decisions, and have good judgment.
• Must be comfortable with preparing and giving presentation.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
• Have the ability to initiate and implement trauma-informed care and support to students.
• Exhibit an understanding and commitment to a culturally-focused developmental model.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Demands
Dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach. The coordinator may experience stress and stress related symptoms due to interacting with students in crisis. Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work. Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Response to crisis situations can be unpredictable, emotional, and threatening. The coordinator must be prepared to handle own stress.
