We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Director, GCIO CCO - Asia Markets.
The GCIO Chief Control Office (CCO) team plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management. We do this by providing operational risk and control expertise, specialist technical knowledge and a deep understanding of the businesses and functions we serve. Key activities include implementation and oversight of the Group’s Risk Management Framework, ongoing and targeted controls assessments, implementing and maintaining robust risk governance, and championing a proactive risk culture. GCIO CCO works closely with partners across all lines of defence and is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with our regulators and external partners.
The role holder will be responsible for:
You will be a leader within the GCIO Chief Control Office (GCIO CCO) Function that directly supports a number of Asia CIOs within HSBC. Our purpose is to take accountability for GCIO Risk Management so GCIO can achieve strategic outcomes for HSBC, while remaining resilient and secure.
This will be achieved by:
Enable Markets to deliver strategic growth safely and securely.
Help CIOs make data-driven decisions to manage HSBC’s residual risk.
Improve Markets’ understanding of key technology, Cyber and Data risks and their role in mitigating them.
Ensure CIO teams implement local technology risk policies, standards, and regulatory requirements, and support adoption of new or changed regulations.
Partner with Risk and Control Owners to ensure risk positions are understood and embedded in control design, implementation, and metrics.
Identify, develop, and support talent.
The role will have regional and market responsibilities.
The role holder will lead a team of CCOs to value based and outcome focussed way of working, including driving cultural change to deliver strong integrated risk management across Markets and the business.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Stakeholder Management
Act as a primary point of contact across key Asia CIOs for all matters related to risk & controls
Manage executive updates to Market ExCO and boards
Effectively manage relationships across 1LOD and 2LOD/3LOD partners – drive risk and audit reviews and subsequent actions through to resolution by partnering with 1LOD/GCIO teams
Break siloes across the GCIO function and HSBC to achieve risk management objectives of the business
Functional Risk & Controls
Drive risk and control decision-making based on quality data and commercial analysis, actively challenging poor, inefficient or excessive controls, related tasks and behaviours.
Manage end-to-end regulatory inspections pertaining to technology, Cyber and Data risk management
Lead a programmatic approach to resolving key control issues in Asia and Middle East.
Oversee emerging risks, strategic business initiatives and local change activity
Set the regional control assurance plan and approve prioritisation of remediation across markets
Drive consistent communication, clarifying impacts of change on the risk and control environment for HSBC
Deliver local control assessments at regional and market levels, while effectively communicating residual risk to risk owners.
GCIO CCO function
Drive continuous improvement of processes, policies and tooling across GCIO CCO
Support CCO operating model, service catalogue, procedures, and toolkits
Constructive challenge on control environment and assessment of risk across GCIO
Influence and shape the development and implementation of future-fit risk management and regulatory frameworks
Ensuring lessons learnt in one line of business/impacting incident are properly understood for all of GCIO with associated actions implemented in a timely manner
Embed risk culture and change delivery capability across the GCIO CCO function
Articulating the regional Technology and Cyber Security risk and control position at regional risk committees.
Support the successful implementation of risk and control project initiatives in the region.
External environment
Identify trends to anticipate future developments in the risk and control environment through regulatory horizon scanning.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead the team of Control Managers and Senior Control Managers within Asia markets to manage operational risk through risk assessments, control environment reviews, issues management discipline and provide specialist risk and control knowledge and insights
Plan team delivery effectively considering resource constraints and optimizes the plan to maximize benefits and minimize risk
Lead by example, demonstrate core behaviour and values including professionalism, teamwork, determination, and continuous improvement
Continuously invest in the team’s technical skills through ongoing learning, development and coaching
Lead the definition and delivery of a team strategy, aligned to HSBC and the GCIO CCO function’s objectives.
Define core delivery targets for the Team and ensure team delivery on commitments made
Coach team members to enable performance improvement and career development at HSBC
