Position Summary
This position directly supports manufacturing operations through troubleshooting, panel fabrication, and control system optimization. The role requires collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams to diagnose and resolve electrical and automation issues, build and install custom control panels, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance production efficiency and equipment reliability. The ideal candidate will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work alongside maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot and repair electrical and control system issues in real-time.
Provide support for PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and safety devices.
Assist in updating and maintaining electrical and control documentation (schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC programs).
Build and wire custom electrical control panels from schematics and layout drawings.
Install control panels and integrate them with machinery and production equipment.
Test panel functionality and troubleshoot as needed prior to deployment.
Program, test, and validate proper alarms, annunciation, safety interlock behaviors, redundancy fail-over strategies and other plant safety and downtime avoidance techniques aimed at maximizing safety while increasing uptime and preventing damage to expensive machinery.
Identify opportunities for improving equipment performance, reliability and safety.
Assist engineers in implementing automation upgrades and optimization projects.
Utilize LEAN tools such as Standardized Work, 5S, Visual Management as well as leading Kaizen projects and documenting results to support continuous improvement projects.
Identify and establish machine spares for equipment as needed.
Maintain accurate records of wiring changes, modification, and system configurations.
Contribute to standard work instructions (WI) for new and existing control systems.
Ability to read and interpret legacy plant electrical engineering diagrams and schematics associated with relay control systems and analog instrumentation.
Requirements
Must hold an Electrician Journeyman card or an Electrician license from a state program and have 8 years of direct experience with electrical and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
PLC programming on Allen-Bradley product lines, including Studio 5000, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5, Connected Components, and Factorytalk View Studio.
Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and control systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Proficiency with hand tools, multimeters, and basic electrical testing equipment.
Must be willing to work altered schedules/overtime as needed to support the plant.
Two plus (2+) years of experience building and wiring electrical panels or working in a similar industrial controls/automation environment.
Basic understanding of process control principles and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
Familiarity with machine safety standards and practices (e.g., NFPA 70E, ISO 13849)
