JOB PURPOSE: The Pediatric Dentist in conjunction with the Center’s mission, provides comprehensive pediatric dental care in a patient-centered, quality-oriented manner while also providing clinical supervision and instruction to the Pediatric Residents and dental students.

 

Essential Job Functions:

• Participates in the Center’s Quality Assurance Program and peer review process.
• Follows and complies with all OSHA regulations, guidelines, and established Center- wide policies and procedures regarding employee safety, infection control and sterilization.
• Follows and complies with all HIPPA regulations, guidelines and established Center-wide policies and procedures regarding patient confidentiality.
• Follows and complies with all U.S. Department of Education regulations, guidelines, and established LMC/Center-wide policies and procedures regarding resident/student confidentiality rules.
• Performs, in a timely manner, the administrative duties associated with the practice of dentistry, including chart documentation, the completion of referrals and pre-authorizations, lab case follow-up, and chart review and attending duties for the dental residents and dental students.
• Attends committee meetings and staff meetings as required.
• Maintains a satisfactory level or better on the annual performance evaluation and keeps licensure and credentialing current and up to date.
• Provides a work environment safe and free from hazards; immediately addresses or informs management of safety issues or potential hazards; adheres to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures; participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

 

• A Staff Pediatric Dentist will work eight (8) clinical sessions per week. A session is defined as a five (5) hour period. A majority of the clinical time will be spent supervising more than one (1) pediatric dental resident.
• Works clinical sessions and/or Attends residents/students during clinical sessions as assigned by the Associate Director of Pediatric Dentistry and /or the Dental Director and is prepared to begin work during these clinical sessions in a punctual manner.
• Provides and assures comprehensive dental care that is considered reasonable and prudent within the Standard of Care by a Pediatric Dentist to a wide variety of pediatric and special needs patients in a quality oriented, efficient, and cost-effective manner when assigned to patient care duties and when attending/supervising residents and students.
• Takes on-call after hours emergency telephone calls for patients of record on a rotating basis as well as supervises the residents who are on- call as well.
• Staffs evening or Saturday clinics as determined by the current clinic policies at the direction of the Associate Dental Director for Pediatric Dentistry and/or the Dental Director.
• Works with the Health Center’s Pediatric and Family Practice Medical Staff in a collaborative manner in support of the Integrative Health Home Model and is available for consultation with the Center’s Medical Staff regarding patients’ dental problems.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.
• Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
• Maintains exceptional level of customer service; addresses and resolves complaints; serves as an example by providing excellent service to internal and external customers, employees, and patients. Demonstrates and models El Rio Behavioral Standards in all interactions with patients, co-workers, and visitors.
• Demonstrates service excellence through the use of AIDET principles consistently applied with all patients, community members, co-workers, and colleagues.
• Consistently meets patient service expectations.
• Provides necessary dental care for hospitalized pediatric dental patients.
• Takes in patient call as assigned.
• Directly supervises members of their dental team and works in a professional, cooperative, and congenial manner with the dental auxiliary staff (i.e., hygienists, dental assistants, and dental receptionists, residents, and students.)
• Directs and supervises dental auxiliary staff in their normally assigned duties.
• Works cooperatively with providers and all staff to assure a high standard of patient service/quality care.
• Embraces and promotes a professional working environment based on understanding and respect for diversity and multi-culturalism in all its forms; demonstrates sensitivity, acknowledges varied beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and customs, and encourages communication and appreciation of all forms of diversity.
•  Supervises the Pediatric Residents, AEGD Residents and Dental Students as assigned according to the established ADA accreditation requirements and complies with all facility policies and procedures, including but not limited to those addressing HIPAA and Corporate Compliance Policies.
• Contributes to a team effort in all interactions with patients and staff by following the established Behavioral Guidelines and Code of Conduct policies.
• Maintains in a cost-effective, quality-oriented way, the established minimum patient productivity goals.
• Utilizes Health Center resources, supplies, and equipment in an effective and judicious manner.
• Participates as a member of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in continuing dental education according to the requirements set forth by Board of Dental Examiners. (Currently 24 hours per year.)

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• In support of the Mission and Vision of El Rio Health, will at all times represent themselves as a professional role model of El Rio Health serving as a positive informational source for members of the community.
• Supports El Rio by participating in community events which promote good health, and which contribute to a broader awareness and understanding of El Rio Health and the many services provided to the community.
• Participates in all appropriate health care activities related to El Rio Health on a local, state, and national level to maintain and enhance El Rio’s image with health agencies, professional associations, and the general public.
• Ensures and supports the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment by limiting waste of all organizational supplies and resources.
• Employees must maintain their skills proficiency with El Rio operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from a dental school accredited by the American Dental Association.
• Successful completion of an American Dental Association Accredited Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program.
• Board Eligible / Board Certified preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

• Licensure from the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners (Original Copy)
• Current Arizona State Licensure Certificate of Renewal
• Current DEA Number Certificate
• Three letters of recommendation
• Record of Continuing Education Credits (Updated on regular basis)
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
• Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.
• Current Resume or CV
• Completed El Rio application.
• Proof of Post Graduate Residency (if applicable)
• Proof of Board Eligibility/Board Certification (if applicable).
• Arizona State Sedation Permit (if applicable)
• Other documentation as may be requested by the Dental Director
• Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver's license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
