Simulation Technician, Academic Health Science
Primary Purpose: To act as a Simulation Technician-Lead (ST) as well as work as an independent interdisciplinary team member; coordinating the communication, setup and implementation of simulated learning experiences in the Clinical Learning Resource Center (CLRC) and overseeing the work of other STs. This position is integral to providing and maintaining the clinical learning areas as high caliber service units for the health science colleges and programs. This position will help create and facilitate an environment of collaboration, excellent customer service, and efficient day-to-day workflow to meet the educational and research needs of the various health science programs and external partners.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the CLRC Manager, the Lead Simulation Technician (ST) will oversee and coordinate a clinical learning team and work collaboratively with CLRC staff and various health science college faculty, students, standardized patients, and visitors in a simulated healthcare environment. With minimal supervision, utilizing sound working knowledge and CLRC project management principles the Lead ST will work collaboratively and independently in the coordination, planning, and implementation of clinical labs for the various health science colleges and schools. This position requires excellent independent problem solving, time management, supervisory, and mentoring skills. This position may experience constant interruptions, changing priorities, strict deadlines, multiple competing demands, addressing multiple complex issues, moderate/heavy physical labor and on your feet for several hours at a time. The hours of work will require evening and occasional weekend hours.
You will be required to be on your feet for 8.5 hrs
You will be required to sit at a desk to complete paperwork and work on a computer
You will be required to lift and move equipment, trainers, and manikins. This equipment can weigh up to 25 lbs
You will be required to work in teams to complete larger lifts
You will be required to complete TLR lifting and moving training and follow those safe lifting principles
CUPE: Typical Duties:
Coordinate the operational aspects for the implementation of the course: clinic room setup with identified supplies and equipment, lab support during turnover times, equipment, and cleanup after all events
As Project Manager for a course, the Lead ST will assign duties to the other ST’s and CLRC team members to ensure all the courses’ needs are met and run smoothly
Provide front line support for faculty tutors during the implementation of a course
Work closely with faculty during the session to ensure the educational needs are met
Manages equipment and consumable lists for each course offered and updates as necessary; ensures the supplies are current and assists with ordering
Maintain CLRC facilities: Clinic rooms and other CLRC and USask space, as a clean, uncluttered clinic environment; maintain a checklist of all supplies and equipment required in each room; conduct daily restocking of rooms, as required
Mentor and coach less experienced team members
Assists with problem solving by offering solutions to scheduling, space management, equipment and supplies when conflicts are identified and helps coordinate solutions independently or in collaboration with the CLRC Manager
Provides excellent customer service to the faculty, instructors, students, clients, and visitors
Maintains confidentiality regarding job assignments, courses, student activities, and other issues that arise
Specialized duties related to the Clinical Assessment Area
Manages the day-to-day operations clinic area
Manages learner practice sessions and learner Special Interest groups
Manages equipment loan programs
Assist the CLRC manager with projects as assigned
Qualifications: Education: under-graduate degree; related health care degree, diploma or certificate preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years of staff oversight; 2 years of health care experience required; experience with Microsoft Office computer applications mandatory. Proven administrative proficiency, including scheduling, event planning, and managing multiple concurrent projects, is essential; experience in customer service or other roles requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills is highly beneficial.
Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal; demonstrate effective organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and maintain attention to detail; ability to work independently and also collaboratively as part of a team; ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy; proven ability to work on multiple projects with competing demands to meet deadlines; demonstrated proficiency with video based applications such as PanOpto, ZOOM, and Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams; strong initiative and willingness to learn.
