The Donation Centre Associate and Driver will work with team members and volunteers to receive incoming clothing and household items, ensure that they are in suitable condition, and sort the items. The position will also pack and deliver orders to the Thrift Store or to The Mustard Seed’s Community Impact Centres. As this position interacts directly with donors and volunteers, the Donation Centre Associate and Driver is responsible for providing a positive experience for all who visit The Mustard Seed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive incoming donations, screening and sorting items according to quality standards and with reference to program & Thrift Store needs
Pack orders and deliver to the Thrift Store and Pack orders and deliver to the Thrift Store, Community Impact Centres, and Shelters
Pick up items from partnering businesses and organizations
Communicate the story of The Mustard Seed’s ministry and develop rapport, through intentional interactions with volunteers and donors
Guide individual volunteers and volunteer groups with sorting and packing donations along with other duties
Maintain accurate reporting of donations, inventory, and outgoing items
Contribute and execute on creative ideas to improve donor relations, goods stewardship, and process efficiency
Provide occasional coverage at The Thrift Store; Training will be provided
Maintain cleanliness of the warehouse and its perimeter to ensure a safe workplace
Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, Safe TALK, NVCI) and attend meetings with supervisor
Other duties as may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Experience driving a transit van
Proficiency in Microsoft office programs, specifically data entry is an asset
Excellent organizational skills and ability to support front-line programs
Knowledge of designer labels, collectibles, and seasonal trends is an asset
Strong communication, customer service, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
This role requires strong interpersonal skills, as it involves frequent engagement with individual volunteers, volunteer groups, and colleagues across various departments
A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team and direct volunteer groups including those with diverse needs and abilities as required
Experience working in a volunteer-based organization is considered an asset
Passionate about participating in a Christian organization focused on supporting people living in poverty
Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license, and clean driver’s abstract.
WORKING CONDITIONS
As The Mustard Seed is a Christian Ministry, we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith
The position will require frequent manual labor (up to 50 lbs) with long periods of standing and walking, indoors and outdoors of the warehouse
Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive
Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments
Requires moderate mental effort to maintain organization and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
