DUTIES
SUMMARY
The Senior Community Outreach Ambassador – Mental Health Promoter works to ensure the integration of services across target service areas within Supervisory Districts 1 & 2 (SPA 4 & 6) to strengthen communities, build trauma-resiliency and link community members to relevant services. This position leads outreach and advocacy for healthy and racially equitable communities by empowering others to raise awareness and mobilize change. Collaborates with internal and external systems within the Department Mental Health (DMH), other county departments, community partners, and thought leaders. Lead non-traditional workshops to enhance emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of target populations. Duties may vary based on the needs of the department, service area lead and/or supervisorial district.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Establishes authentic, positive, and supportive relationships with community members and encourages feedback.
Engages in community activities that may include outreach and engagement, individual and community advocacy, facilitating groups, case management, referral and linkage, and collaborates with internal and external systems within DMH, and other county departments, community partners and thought leaders.
Guides community members through utilization of resources, including scheduling appointments, assists with completing applications for programs for which they may be eligible. Collects and disseminates information through community by canvassing, door-to-door, or in community settings on CII services and other community resources and activities.
Plans and executes community engagement activities for each project from the other community outreach ambassadors, community advisory/coalitions, neighborhood action teams, and outside community leaders to ensure community input is integrated in key decisions.
Initiates and maintains communication flow between community groups, and organizations. Works with people and groups from diverse backgrounds to reduce cultural and socio-economic barriers between community members and institutions.
Facilitates meetings with the CII Community Engagement Team, other Ambassador Meetings, and required meetings/trainings by funder as assigned.
Provides community psychoeducation and support regarding community-defined needs such as increasing protective factors, recognizing signs and symptoms of mental illness, healthy coping skills, health and nutrition, financial literacy, and career development.
Documents activities, service plans, and results while adhering to applicable policies and procedures.
Supports with the recruitment and design of community change groups at the direction of supervisor.
Recruits, trains and maintains relationships with community champions for each project to support communications efforts on an ongoing basis.
Engages in digital media and functions as weavers, sees through lines of connectivity between people, places, organizations, ideas, and movements, raising awareness about human rights and encouraging community members to become activists in their wellbeing plan.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma orgeneral education degree (GED) required, bachelor's degree in any field preferred.
Lived experience in communities for this program and/or three years of community-based direct service experience as a Promoteres de Salud, Community Health Workers, Peer Advocates, Parent Partners, Community Ambassadors, etc.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work well with others, gain consensus, and work towards a common goal.
Valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Free from alcohol and drug abuse.
Understands CII’s basic philosophy and participates fullyin carrying out its mission.

COMPENSATION:
$26.75 USD - $32.10 USD
In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is included in this posting. The actual compensation will be determined based on factors permitted by law. New hires will be offered a salary at the starting point of the range to maintain internal inequity and allow opportunity for future salary growth. CII salaries are determined based on comprehensive internal and external market analysis, as well as the skills, education, and experience relevant to each position.
