General Description
Under general supervision, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric assessment, evaluation, intervention and management of patients, including medication management, under the clinical supervision of the Collaborative Psychiatrist. Works with and assists the Clinic management and the Collaborative Psychiatrist in the development and maintenance of psychiatric care standards and in the training, supervision and development of nursing staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Services
Performs comprehensive clinical assessment including medical history, psychiatric history, mental status exam and diagnosis.
Perform and/or obtain laboratory data and/or diagnostic tests to be reviewed as needed with the attending physician.
Meets with clients during individual scheduled appointments for prescription of psychotropic medications, medication education and management, supportive psychotherapy, and crisis intervention. Facilitates and participates in collateral meetings to enhance client support as appropriate.
Provides clinical consultation to mental health clinicians and nurses regarding psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, interpretation of psychiatric information and formulation and implementation of individual treatment plans.
Utilizes assessment information and acquired information to clarify problem areas and treatment needs and to help establish appropriate interventions.
Provide health monitoring individual and group services.
Use PSYCKES system to track clients clinically with positive PSYCKES Project indicators.
Offer in service training to clinical staff related to clinical care and psychopharmacology.
Supervision and consultation
Meets with attending Collaborative psychiatrist on a weekly basis for supervision and clinical review of cases, and collaborate with other attending psychiatrists as needed.
Consults with program staff to assist with the provision of Nicotine replacement Therapy or other needed medication for successful recovery from Tobacco, Alcohol or other Drug addictions and make appropriate referrals as necessary.
Participates as a collaborative team member in team meetings and/or case reviews.
Maintains regular communications with team members and other providers to ensure coordinated services..
Establish protocol, in consultation with clinical staff, for new health monitoring individual and group services.
Consults with the primary clinician in making appropriate referrals and recommendations for services not offered within the facility based on findings of psychiatric assessments when appropriate.
Responsible for establishing, maintaining and evaluating nursing care in the Mental Health Clinic. This includes the hiring, evaluation, and supervision of all nursing staff in the clinic.
Reviews and countersigns client treatment plans.
Documentation
Documents all direct clinical service activity and prepare progress reports and assessment information as required by regulatory and funding bodies.
Maintains case records and statistical data required for billing, quality assurance, client satisfaction and other program evaluation activities as required.
Completes all required clinical documentation on the same day of visit or within 24 hours.
Will maintain 100% compliance with regulatory & agency documentation standards.

Maintains compliance with all New York State regulations, laws, and other requirements of accreditation and/or licensing authorities (i.e. COA, OMH, OASAS, OCFS, OMIG, OIG, etc).
At all times maintains current active licensure in good standing within designated profession as required by job title & qualifications.
Program, Organizational and Other Responsibilities
Maintains familiarity with other agency programs through review of written material and possible periodic direct observation.
Participates in the evaluation of agency mental health services.
Works with program Directors and Psychiatrists to ensure coverage of caseload on unscheduled days in program including on call services involving crisis intervention and staff support.
Facilitates coverage of responsibilities during absences from work, including vacations or illness.
Responsible for attendance in all mandatory, annual in-services as assigned.
Cooperates with co-workers and demonstrates tolerance for differences in abilities, lifestyles, religious observances and cultural practices as well as actively supports services that are delivered in a culturally sensitive and competent manner
Actively pursues development of professional competencies related to job role performance through reading, supervision, in-service training and attendance at conferences and workshops.
Awareness of and active support of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan. Including, but not limited to, supporting the Agency's Core Competency initiatives of being Collaborative and Community Focused, Innovative and Entrepreneurial, and Culturally Competent and Diverse.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing required. Equivalent Combination of education and experience will be considered.
Credentials: New York State certification as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Valid and clean NYS Driver’s License.
Experience: Three years of clinical experience related to nursing services to individuals with mental health or alcoholism, substance abuse related services preferred.
