The impact you will make:
Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic AssociateDirector (AD), Value, Access, and Pricing (Ex-US) to join our growing Global Commercial Strategy and Access team to help us prepare for and execute exciting upcoming launches in ex-US regions including Europe and the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC). The AD will be responsible for leading the development and execution of value, access, and pricing strategies to support patient access to our medicines in Europe and the GCC in collaboration with our distributor partners. This role balances strategy and execution: shaping long-term access, reimbursement, and pricing strategy while driving high-quality deliverables, submissions, negotiations, operational problem-solving, governance, and execution.
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Global Value, Access, and Pricing, the AD, Value, Access, and Pricing (Ex-US) is a key member of the Global Commercial Strategy and Access team and will work closely with the global commercial strategy and global value, access and pricing teams to ensure goal alignment and meet corporate objectives. Strong strategy, negotiation, collaboration, leadership, and communication skills are essential for this role. Those best suited for this role will have a deep understanding of reimbursement, pricing and contract negotiations and have an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset. Success in this role will also require strong attention to detail, and the ability to build trust-based relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
What you will do:
Lead the development and execution of market access and pricing strategies and tactics for the Agios portfolio in Ex-US countries including Europe and the GCC in conjunction with commercial partners
Support execution of access, reimbursement and pricing negotiations with payors and reimbursement authorities with commercial partners
Guide pricing and reimbursement strategy execution with external partners and distributors
Collaborate with internal cross functional partners and external stakeholders to create and communicate the value story
Provide input to the HEOR team on value dossiers and economic models to support pricing and reimbursement submissions, with strong attention to consistency, evidence quality, payer credibility, and submission readiness
Plan and manage vendor activities and budget
Proactively identify risks, trade-offs, and opportunities, and bring forward pragmatic recommendations that support patient access and sustainable value.
What will make you successful
You are highly detail-oriented and hold yourself and partners to a high standard of accuracy, quality, and follow-through.
You can move comfortably between strategic discussions and hands-on execution, and you are willing to roll up your sleeves when needed.
You are confident respectfully challenging assumptions, raising risks, and offering alternative perspectives while preserving trust and professionalism.
You are flexible and adaptable, able to work through ambiguity or evolving priorities
You build trusted relationships with cross-functional colleagues, external partners, distributors, payers, reimbursement authorities, and senior leaders.
You communicate with clarity and credibility, tailoring messages appropriately for technical, cross-functional, and executive audiences.
You demonstrate strong ownership and accountability, proactively driving work forward and following through on commitments.
What you bring:
Strong understanding of health care systems, stakeholders and reimbursement trends across the world and significant experience in gaining access and reimbursement in Europe (required) and the GCC (advantageous but not required)
Proven track record of developing and executing market access strategies, including negotiating price and access, development and execution of managed entry agreements
Strong understanding of pricing and access principles such as international reference pricing, price volume tradeoffs, pricing governance, and finance
Strategic and operational experience from global, regional and/or affiliate market access roles
Experience with collaborating with a distributor partner
Strong clinical and commercial understanding of rare diseases, including rare blood indications
Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, highly collaborative and fast paced environment and be flexible and adaptable to evolving business needs
Excellent communication and presentation skills, and ability to gain credibility, engender trust and influence at all levels, with internal and external stakeholders, including working with third parties and distributors; demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence without authority is essential
Demonstrated ability to push back constructively and respectfully, challenge assumptions, and advocate for patient-focused and commercially sound solutions.
Experience in building relationships/networks and working with health care decision makers (governments, payers, insurers, policy makers, other decision makers, KOLs etc.)
Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree (MBA) preferred and a minimum of 5-8 years of experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals, with at least 5 years of experience in market access roles
Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communications skills
Travel required approximately 10-15% of the time
