Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Scrum Master (Software Engr) (26-378) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
This role involves serving as the Scrum Master for the C2BMC System Architecture (SA) Product Team. Reporting directly to the Product Owner, the Scrum Master will provide servant leadership and mentorship to one of the two Scrum teams within SA. They will ensure the smooth execution of Agile processes and ceremonies, such as daily Scrum, backlog refinement with the PO, sprint planning, and retrospectives, to keep all team members engaged. Utilizing expertise in software engineering, Agile practices, and interpersonal skills, the Scrum Master will facilitate the removal of obstacles, monitor progress, and assist in planning upcoming work. Additionally, they will play a vital role during Program Increment (PI) planning, helping to organize work, decompose features, and oversee user story creation. Close collaboration with other Scrum Masters, technical leads, and management will be essential to ensure clear understanding of capabilities, dependencies, and schedules, supporting effective and precise PI planning.
Essential Functions:
Familiarity with the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) used by the government and C2BMC program to track financial progress
The scrum master is expected to spend approximately 70% of their time on technical work, with the remaining 30% allocated to scrum master ceremonies and responsibilities, excluding PI planning periods.
The ideal candidate will utilize robust skills in leadership, Agile practices, EVMS, and technical expertise—including Java software development, Continuous Integration and Development, missile defense experience, and systems engineering—to effectively lead a Scrum team
Basic Qualifications:
