Job Duties
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking an hourly/wage Driver Training Service Assistant. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of document processing within the Driver Training Work Center and is responsible for the accurate intake, review, and processing of all incoming mail and faxes related to operations. This role ensures that all documents are properly received, verified for completeness, categorized, and prepared for scanning and storage in accordance with established procedures. This position supports daily workflow continuity through coordinated morning and afternoon responsibilities to maintain timely and efficient processing.
The Driver Training Division promotes safe driving practices by overseeing the certification and regulation of driver education and improvement programs. This division ensures that driver training schools, instructors, and programs meet state standards, facilitating the education of new and at-risk drivers to support safe and responsible driving across the state.
Wage positions are limited to no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week, on average, over the 12-month period. Wage positions do not include state benefits.
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Minimum Qualifications
• Strong attention to detail and organization skills • Ability to follow standardized office procedures consistently • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office or other applications • Effective written communication skills for customer notifications • Ability to manage time-sensitive tasks and meet deadlines • Experience with document review and preparation • Experience with processing and scanning documents

• Knowledge of driver training programs and their regulatory requirements • Experience in a DMV or similar regulatory agency, especially with program support
