Full job description
About the Role
As a Manufacturing Technician, you will execute a variety of hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly tasks required to build our cutting-edge energy storage systems.
Electrical Sub-Assembly serves as the core foundation of this role—constructing the critical wiring harnesses and sub-assemblies that supply all downstream departments. Depending on your experience, expertise, and operational needs, you may be assigned to specialized production areas across the facility.
Role Levels & Progression:
Level I (0–2 Years Experience): Focuses on foundational mechanical assembly, standard wiring routing, core hand/power tool operation, and basic quality inspections under direct supervision.
Level II (2–5+ Years Experience): Executes advanced mechanical and electrical assemblies, operates heavy-lifting equipment (including overhead cranes), troubleshoots complex build discrepancies, and mentors Level I technicians.
Starting compensation is dependent on experience.
Assembly Departments & Focus Areas
Technicians may be placed in one or more of the following specialized functional areas based on skill set, technical background, and facility demand:
Electrical Sub-Assembly Area (Central Feed Hub): Serves as the primary build hub servicing all other production departments. Responsible for constructing, pre-assembling, harnessing, and testing high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical wiring, control panels, and sub-assemblies prior to final integration across product lines.
Flywheel Assembly: Focuses on heavy mechanical build processes. Technicians regularly utilize overhead cranes to pick up, maneuver, and align large, heavy pieces of machined metal to build high-precision flywheel power storage systems, as well as installing internal electrical wiring and components.
Power Supply Assembly: Responsible for assembling power electronics, power distribution enclosures, high/low voltage electrical wiring runs, and associated structural framework for clean power delivery.
Storage Pod Assembly: Handles structural assembly utilizing long metal tubes to build outer frame structures and large pre-machined sheet metal panels. Integrates sub-assembly wiring harnesses, internal hardware, and pod components into complete modular units.
HVAC Systems Assembly: Constructs outer structural frames from long metal tubing and mounts sheet metal enclosures for environmental control systems. Installs mechanical HVAC equipment, routes electrical wiring, and secures full system integration.
Battery Storage Assembly: Focuses on precision battery enclosure integration. Works heavily with overhead cranes to safely lift, maneuver, and set heavy battery modules into final housing units, followed by complete HV/LV electrical terminations and mechanical tie-ins.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Mechanical & Frame Assembly
Work directly with pre-machined materials, including large pieces of sheet metal and long structural metal tubing, to construct sturdy outer frames and enclosures for storage pods, HVAC systems, and flywheel units.
Perform alignment, fitting, and mechanical fastening of structural components according to engineering blueprints and specs.
Tool & Equipment Operation
Demonstrate expert use of a wide range of manual, pneumatic, and power hand tools, including but not limited to: power drills, screwdrivers, socket wrenches, torque wrenches, rivet guns, mallets, hammers, wire strippers, and crimpers.
Maintain, inspect, and calibrate personal hand tools and shop equipment prior to daily production.
Heavy Lifting & Crane Operations
Operate overhead bridge/gantry cranes and specialized rigging equipment to pick up, position, and place heavy machined flywheel metal components and battery modules into finished assemblies safely.
Adhere strictly to safe rigging practices and heavy load movement protocols.
Electrical Wiring & Integration
Route, install, and secure high-voltage and low-voltage electrical wiring, cable assemblies, and sub-assemblies across all build departments.
Interpret schematic diagrams and color-coded wiring blueprints to ensure exact termination, crimping, and pin placement.
Quality Control & Testing
Conduct thorough visual inspections, alignment checks, and functional electrical/mechanical testing on completed sub-assemblies and final builds.
Identify, document, and report any defects, material discrepancies, or build issues to engineering and quality assurance teams.
Safety & Compliance
Strictly adhere to all OSHA regulations, plant safety policies, arc flash precautions, and crane operation guidelines.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area (5S standards).
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Experience
0 – 5+ years of relevant manufacturing, mechanical, or electrical assembly experience (level determined by depth of experience).
Extensive hands-on proficiency with hand and power tools (drills, wrenches, rivet guns, mallets, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to read and accurately interpret technical engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and color-coded wiring diagrams.
Comfort working with large-scale structural materials, including sheet metal, metal frame tubing, and heavy mechanical parts.
Experience or willingness to be trained in overhead crane and hoist operations for heavy lifting.
Strong attention to detail, quality standards, and physical dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Technical certifications or vocational training in electrical, mechanical, or industrial technology disciplines.
Active OSHA-compliant Forklift Certification is a plus.
Prior experience in clean tech, battery storage, HVAC manufacturing, machine shops, or heavy equipment assembly.
