Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate a strong academic or practical background in each of the following:
Solid understanding of internal force analysis (e.g., trusses, frames, and beams), bending moment and shear diagrams, and kinematics/kinetics of particles and rigid bodies.
Proficiency in applying Newton’s Second Law, Work-Energy Principles, and Impulse-Momentum methods to engineering systems.
Prior completion of coursework in statics and dynamics (or equivalent experience) with strong performance.
Experience with tutoring or mentoring students in engineering problem-solving is an asset
