Responsibilities
Lead costing capabilities for synthetic textile materials and execute cost consolidation programs to maximize ROI. Translate market data into negotiation targets and manage seasonal development cost progress with global suppliers.
Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 6 years of experience in materials sourcing and costing, preferably within the apparel industry. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to build material cost models and negotiate with external vendors.
Full job description
Our Materials Costing team drives the strategy and messaging around materials costing targets that help us make room for innovation, sustainable materials, and scaling the best of Nike’s materials into our Apparel and Accessories product lines.
WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
You will work closely with Materials Costing leadership while driving a critical x-functional partnership with Material Sourcing, Material Development, Partner/Materials Management, Operations, Finance and Global Business Planning teams. You will connect with Material Developers, Designers, Chemical Engineers, Suppliers, and Factory Partners to understand product excellence requirements, manufacturing processes, and associated sustainability initiatives. In your role, you will serve as an integral contact for multi-source costing levers, 3PL providers, material trends, strategies and metrics.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for an innovative individual capable of identifying, crafting, and approaching material costing through an enterprise lens, while also effectively communicating with global teammates, working cross-culturally and valuing differences. The ideal candidate will bring a curious mindset, proactive approach, and a critical focus on cost transparency. The candidate needs to be organized, detail oriented, and thrive in problem solving environments.
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, textile engineering, economics, operations, manufacturing, industrial engineering or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.
A minimum of 6 years directly relevant work experience preferably in materials sourcing, costing, and supply chain management, preferably in the apparel textile or garment manufacturing industry.
In-depth knowledge of textile and trims/components manufacturing and material commodity markets, including costing throughout the value chain.
Proven experience in building and deploying material cost models and negotiating costs with external vendors.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven mindset, with preferred experience in data systems or analytics.
Ability to create and influence long term total cost savings and commodity market management strategies across external partners, and internal partners like Development and Sourcing.
Excellent communication, project management, and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate across complex environments and maintain focus through ambiguity; willingness to travel up to 10%.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
As an integral part of the Material Costing team, you will be the lead facilitating Costing capabilities for Synthetic Textile Materials, creating and maintaining ongoing tools, and working cross-functionally effectively to execute cost consolidation programs for maximum ROI. You will be responsible for translating raw materials market data into negotiation targets, creating negotiation and costing strategies, conducting cost execution with key suppliers, tracking seasonal development cost progress, and capturing value through operational reporting. You will need to unlock aggregated volume across similar materials to expand multi-source capabilities while improving finish goods COGs margins.
