Job Description
We are internationally recognised for designing and delivering signature bridges, tunnels, and transport infrastructure projects across New Zealand and around the world. Our team combines engineering excellence, innovation, and practical construction knowledge to deliver safe, efficient and resilient infrastructure for our communities.
As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands on exposure to the design, assessment, inspection, and construction of bridges and other civil structures. This is an opportunity to apply your university learning to real projects while developing your technical, professional and field experience.
How you’ll make a difference:
You will support a range of activities across a project lifecycle, which may include:
Assisting with structural analysis, design calculations and technical documentation (e.g., load assessment, member sizing, reinforcement detailing, preparation of drawings and technical reports, coordinating drawing updates with drafters), following relevant standards, under the guidance of experienced engineers
Helping set up and run finite element analysis models by building simple models, applying loads/boundary conditions, conducting basic checks, and post‑processing and interpreting analysis results under supervision.
Participating in bridge and structural inspections and condition assessments by supporting site logistics and safety, capturing field notes and photos.
Assisting with feasibility studies and options assessments for structures renewal and improvement projects by gathering as‑built information, reviewing constraints, and developing and assessing options under supervision,
Supporting project delivery, including construction monitoring, site visits, technical coordination and management of project information (eg. reviewing Inspection Test Plans (ITP) and responding to Request for Information (RFI), action/register tracking).
Contributing to a collaborative team environment and learning from engineers across a variety of disciplines and project stages.
