The Fire Protection Program Engineer serves as the technical authority for implementing and maintaining the station's Fire Protection Program in accordance with NFPA and regulatory standards. Performs advanced technical/engineering problem solving in support of nuclear plant operations while acting as a resource and technical expert to engineers. Responsible for technical decisions. Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes and regulations.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities:
The Fire Protection Program Engineer (FPPE) is the station’s technical authority responsible for implementing and maintaining the Fire Protection Program in accordance with regulatory requirements, fleet procedures, and NFPA standards.
The FPPE provides technical leadership, supports regulatory inspections, maintains program health, and collaborates closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, corporate fire protection, and external oversight bodies
Key Responsibilities
Prepare regular Program Health Reports/KPIs for Fire Protection and FLEX.
Maintain and update program documentation, including FPR, Safe Shutdown Analysis, and procedures. Ensuring compliance with regulations and commitments.
Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and reviews on fire barriers, detection, suppression, and safe-shutdown features.
Review and approve design changes affecting fire protection systems or licensing basis.
Lead or support Fire Protection Inspections (NRC, NEIL, NOS), self-assessments, OPEX/IR reviews, and audits.
Support fire protection issue evaluation and CAP investigations.
Participate in peer calls, and industry committees (INPO, NEI, NFPA)
