POLI 3P91: Quantitative Political Analysis
Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The nominal workload for this position is 60 hours. Duties include facilitating small group computer labs where students learn to organize and analyze statistical data, grading of assignments and exams, providing thoughtful and constructive feedback with the aim of enriching students' academic experiences in the discipline, and maintaining accurate records of individual student performance.
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
Qualifications
Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Political Science. Must have successfully completed POLI 3P91 (or equivalent) and have the ability to clearly articulate basic statistical equations and theoretical concepts for political analysis. Must have good organizational skills and be able to observe timelines requested by the Instructor. Must have prior documented experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar leadership capacity.
