Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
Applicants should have a strong academic background in automation, robotics, control systems, and industrial programming, with successful completion of courses related to digital controller systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial robotics, and feedback control. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of controller architectures, interfacing, communication protocols, interrupts, power management, PLC programming languages, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and industrial control system tuning. Familiarity with robot modelling, path planning, robot programming, robot vision, simulation environments, and industrial automation practices is required. Experience with laboratory instruction, troubleshooting hardware and software systems, and assisting students in practical engineering applications is considered an asset. The successful applicant should possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and be able to support grading, laboratory activities, tutorials, and student consultations while promoting a safe, ethical, and inclusive learning environment.
