WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS POSITION
TheAdjunct Faculty Memberreports to the Law School's Associate Dean for Faculty & Curriculum. Some of the responsibilities of this role are:
Teach or co-teach the Legislative Clinic: Live-client interactions with constituents and legislators under the supervision of seasoned practitioners in preparation for the annual Utah Legislative General Session. During the semester, students will engage in shaping public policy by advising constituents and legislators and drafting legislation for the General Session. The primary focus of this experience will be on fact investigation, conducting legal research and analysis, drafting proposed legislation and preparing constituents and legislators for interim legislative committee meetings and for introducing bills in the Utah Legislative General Session. Students are required to attend a weekly seminar taught by the clinical supervisor. Limited participation at the state capitol for interim legislative committee meetings is required.
The adjunct faculty member will not be asked to attend department meetings.
She or he will be expected to spend some time outside of class to address questions related to the class.
Time taught to be determined by the applicant's schedule.
WHAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS ROLE?
Required Degree: Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master’s degree in Public Policy or a closely related field.
Experience: Deep knowledge of the topic area with a demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts into engaging instructional content. Prior teaching experience at the higher education or professional level is strongly preferred.
