Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Nutrition/Dietetics, or Exercise Physiology and possess at least two years of clinical experience. Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and relevant state licensure as a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian.

As a Diabetes Educator, you will play a fundamental role in helping hospitalized patients gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to successfully manage their diabetes. Working collaboratively with providers, nurses, dietitians, and care teams, you will provide individualized education on blood glucose monitoring, medications, insulin administration, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and diabetes technology. You will assess each patient's unique needs, develop personalized education plans, support discharge readiness, and help ensure a smooth transition to outpatient care. Provide education and support people affected by diabetes while helping them to better understand and manage their condition. Encourage self-management that promotes the achievement of individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes in persons with diabetes across the health care continuum.
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of two year clinical experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required.
• Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
• Public speaking ability required.
• Basic knowledge in office computer tools such as Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required.
•Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
• Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist through the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Registered dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration required (if applicable).
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience providing diabetic education preferred.
• Masters degree in Nursing (MSN), Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field degree preferred.
