Overview
Cleary Gottlieb is a pioneer in globalizing the legal profession. We have fourteen offices in major financial centers around the world, but we operate as a single, integrated global partnership and not a U.S. firm with a network of overseas locations. The firm employs approximately 1,100 lawyers from more than fifty countries.
Since 1946, our lawyers and staff have worked across practices, industries, jurisdictions, and continents to provide clients with simple, actionable approaches to their most complex legal and business challenges, whether domestic or international. We support every client relationship with intellectual agility, commercial acumen, and a human touch.
The Learning & Development CLE (Continuing Legal Education) Assistant will assist the Learning & Development CLE Operations Manager team in the administration of the Firm’s CLE programs by tracking attendance at CLE seminars, issuing Certificates of Attendance to attorneys, and answering attorney questions regarding CLE requirements and their compliance. Further, the Assistant reviews course materials to determine whether they qualify for New York and California CLE credit and provides guidance to attorneys on how to meet the requirements for credit. The Assistant will also assist with general training and L&D projects on an ad-hoc basis.
Responsibilities
Tracking attorney CLE/MCLE requirements, including inputting attendance at CLE seminars and generating CLE/MCLE certificates of attendance for attorneys.
Handling training program administration for various practice groups, including sending invitations, administering sign-in sheets and surveys and copying course materials.
Providing information to attorneys and professional staff on California and New York State mandatory CLE Rules and Regulations and the requirements to make seminars eligible for CA and NYS CLE credit.
Supporting various practice groups with coordinating conference rooms, catering, and audio/visual aspects for training programs.
Planning off-site client CLE seminars, both in New York and outside of New York, and coordinating accreditation of those seminars.
Maintaining department documents, such as CLE attendance sheets, invitations and surveys, to maintain compliance with California and New York CLE Board’s Accredited Provider requirements.
Monitoring weekly attorney arrivals and ensuring that all relevant department files are updated to reflect status and developmental needs of current attorneys.
Monitoring attorney departures and transfers to update attorneys on their CLE requirements and certification status, and remind attorneys to renew law licenses as necessary.
Assisting in the renewal of the firm's status as an Accredited CLE Provider with the New York and California CLE boards, ensuring all paperwork, fees, and compliance requirements are met on time.
Publicizing CLE and other training opportunities (both internal and external), and improving information sharing among global offices by liaising with training contacts in other offices.
Assisting in the preparation of training program materials and ensuring that they are updated on the Firm’s online resources, including eLearning materials on the firm’s learning management system, CE Manager.
General work and assistance on training ad-hoc projects.

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment preferred.
Experience with CLE compliance in New York preferred.
Experience with Micron CE Manager and hosting Zoom events preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills.
Strong events coordination and organization skills.
Exercises good judgment, has excellent organization skills, and strong attention to detail.
Able to work independently and in a team, plan ahead, push projects forward and meet deadlines.
