The primary role and purpose of a teacher are to provide students with appropriate educational activities and experiences that will enable them to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Teachers will help students develop the skills necessary to be productive members of society.
Design, write and use lesson plans that conform to the charter’s curriculum. Ensure written plans are available for review. The dean of academics will review all lesson plans
Ensure lesson plans show modifications for differences in student learning styles
Teach instructional subjects according to guidelines established by California Department of Education, charter policies and administrative regulations
Implement appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment to ensure comprehension of learning styles and student needs
Design instructional activities by using data from student learning style assessments
Collaborate with special education teachers on student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure all modifications are met
Collaborate with staff to determine charter requirements for the instructional goals, objectives and methods.
Produce and oversee teacher aide and volunteer assignments
Employ technology practices to strengthen the instructional process
Help students assess and enhance their study methods and habits
Produce formal and informal testing to evaluate student success
Coordinate and manage extracurricular duties as assigned
Sponsor outside activities approved by the charter principal
Serve as an example for students, support mission of the charter
Prepare classroom to enhance learning and to aid in physical, social and emotional development of students
Control student behavior in agreement with the student handbook
Ensure necessary and reasonable measures are taken to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
Provide input on book, equipment and material selection
Communication
Establish communication rapport with parents, students, principals and teachers through conferences.
Create and maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
Present information accurately through clear communication skills

BA or BS (as appropriate) degree in subject matter
California Commission on Teacher Credentialing credential, certificate, permit or other documentation equivalent to what a teacher in other public schools would be required to hold
Highly qualified in core courses as defined in the section titled “NCLB and Credentialing Requirements”

In the fall of 2002, the Magnolia Public Schools (“MPS” or “Magnolia”) established its first tuition free public charter school, Magnolia Science Academy-1 Reseda in the San Fernando Valley. Since then, MPS has established ten other charter school sites in California that provide an innovative and high quality education. MPS provides a high-performing Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM)-focused public school option to historically underserved families. Its schools outperform their neighborhood public schools, achieve prestigious honors in competitions and send students to the top colleges in the nation. There are 4 MPS middle schools (grades 6-8), 1 elementary school (grades K-5), and 5 middle/high schools (grades 6-12). Distinctive Features of MPS 1) Home Visits Program : Research has shown that one of the keys to successful teaching and schooling is creating personal connections with students. MPS teachers visit students at their homes to enhance student learning and involvement. Teachers can identify students' latest interests or concerns, such as a new hobby, an upcoming trip, or a change in the family. Parents and teachers are critical partners in educating the “whole child”. 2) Extended Learning Time: • Saturday school • After-school tutoring and clubs until 6:00 p.m. • Targeted intervention before, during, and after-school • Summer school programs • Winter and Spring Academic Camps 3) Parent and Community Engagement Program: • Monthly parent workshops and task-force meetings • Community partnerships with local organizations • Community precinct walks • Parent advisory council and volunteer program • Web based parent support system (CoolSIS)
