Description
The Aquinas Center of Theology (ACT) at Candler School of Theology at Emory University, in existence since 1987, serves to provide a Catholic scholarly presence across Emory University and the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The focus of the Aquinas Center is to promote dialogue and mutual understanding amid growing polarization. As such, the Center serves as a bridge bringing together ideas, perspectives, theologies, and cultural traditions to promote mutual understanding. We do so in the ecumenical and dynamic context of Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.
To expands its mission, the Aquinas Center of Theology seeks a full-time, collaborative Assistant Director of Spanish Programming and Events. This employee will work with the Executive Director to expand the Center’s programs and initiatives among the Spanish speaking groups throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta and at Emory. The position reports directly to the Executive Director.
In addition to this community-facing work, the Assistant Director is responsible for the planning, leading, and facilitating Aquinas Center events, both on Emory’s campus and in the community. This position will work with the team to organize, coordinate, and implement the Aquinas Center’s activities.
An ideal, qualified candidate will be deeply engaged in Catholic life and has a proven track record of planning and implementing events that align with an organizational mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to this community-facing work, the Asst Director is responsible for planning, leading, and facilitating Aquinas Center programming, both on campus and community focused.
At the direction of the Executive Director, develop, promote and implement Spanish-speaking programs and initiatives to further engage the Spanish-speaking, Catholic parishioners.
They will work with the Executive Director in organizing, coordinating, and implementing the Aquinas Center's activities.
Develops programs and initiatives to further engage currently underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
Organizes, coordinates, and implements operational facets of programs and its related activities which include, but are not limited to the following: establishing long-term operational objectives, researching factors that may impact the success of the program, and working with individuals or groups to research and document program requirements.
Engages other organizations for programming partnership opportunities including those organizations within Emory University, the Archdiocese of Atlanta and within the greater Atlanta Community.
Promotes and manages program registration to accomplish program goals and objectives.
Conducts research and gather information to develop new programs.
Develops conversation guides for designated Aquinas Center events for use by faith formation leaders in Catholic parishes.
Develops promotional materials and communications which include social media, newsletters, or other written information related to programming.
Assists in developing and coordinating program-related meetings.
Prepare operational and statistical reports.
Represent the Aquinas Center in meetings, conferences, and networks with affiliated groups.
May supervise assigned project staff interns and volunteers.
May participate in the budget planning process.
May assist in identifying funding resources and developing fund-raising strategies and initiatives.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Master's in theology or related field is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Fluency in Spanish with clear, strong written communication skills and compelling public speaking abilities
Highly detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational, planning and time management skills to manage all aspects of an event
Practicing Catholic with knowledge of and engagement with Catholic intellectual traditions and two years of experience working at both the parish or diocesan level
Two years of experience of detailed, event planning at a university/college campus, a faith-based setting or a nonprofit organization
Two years of experience with business-related skills including budgeting, procurement, expense management, reporting and monthly reconciliations
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Canva
Creative professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys producing meaningful events
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate the work of student assistants, staff, and/or volunteers during a program
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
