About the Role

Coupang Eats is looking for a Data Scientist who can go beyond analysis and build systems that directly influence business decisions at scale.

In this role, you will work on complex, real-world problems across marketplace operations, with huge amount of data having a lot of complexity. You will be expected to turn these challenges into structured solutions by combining analytical thinking, modeling, and production-ready implementations.

• This is a hands-on role with strong ownership — from framing problems to deploying solutions that drive measurable impact.
• You will work across Coupang Eats’ Korea and Japan markets, solving similar classes of problems under different data conditions and operational environments, and scaling solutions across regions.
• The role leans heavily toward building scalable modeling and automation systems (~70%), with a smaller portion focused on analytical exploration and insights (~30%).

What You Will Work On

You will work on problems where simple analysis is not sufficient, requiring scalable systems and automated decision logic.

Platform Coverage

• Developing image recognition to help our restaurant onboard to Coupang Eats quickly
• developing AI solutions to generate marketing targeting segments and even banners, creatives

Data Automation at Scale

• Replace manual processes with automated pipelines
• Build systems that generate reliable datasets used for business decisions
• Improve data quality and coverage with minimal manual intervention
• These systems directly power downstream decisions such as pricing, selection, and marketplace strategy

Operational & Optimization Problems

• Work on problems such as delivery efficiency, ETA accuracy, and marketplace balance
• Translate operational challenges into data-driven solutions that can be deployed and iterated on
• Focus on improving not just model performance, but real-world outcomes

What You Will Do

• Break down ambiguous business problems into structured, solvable components
• Design and implement scalable solutions combining data processing, modeling, and system logic
• Own the full lifecycle: problem definition → solution design → deployment → iteration
• Build production-ready code and collaborate closely with engineers
• Partner with stakeholders to ensure solutions are aligned with business goals

What We Are Looking For

Problem Solving & Ownership

• Strong ability to work through open-ended problems by analysing business requirements and applying AI/ML techniques
• Comfortable making decisions based on data and imperfect information
• Track record of delivering practical solutions with measurable impact

Technical Strength

• Proficiency in Python or SQL + vibe-coding and harness engineering.
• Experience working with large-scale data and building reliable data, AI workflows, AI agents.
• Familiarity with modeling, algorithms, or optimization techniques
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and production-quality code

Ways of Working

• Focus on building solutions that scale rather than one-off analyses
• Strong learning agility — able to pick up new tools or approaches quickly
• Pragmatic mindset: choose the right approach for the problem, not just the most complex one
• English proficiency preferred
