Revenue Specialist, Manager
Job Description Summary
Manager-level controllership role responsible for leading revenue recognition, contract accounting and related governance for contract, project and facilities management engagements. The role ensures accurate and compliant reporting under FRS 115, provides technical guidance to Business Units and Operations, strengthens contract discipline, supports statutory audits and internal controls, and drives scalable process improvements across project accounting, billing and month-end close.
Job Description
About The Job:
Revenue Recognition & Contract Accounting
Lead end-to-end revenue recognition under FRS 115 for project-based and facilities management contracts, including assessment of performance obligations, transaction price, variable consideration, contract modifications and revenue timing.
Provide technical accounting guidance on complex revenue matters and ensure consistent, well-documented accounting conclusions across Business Units and projects.
Own and maintain revenue recognition accounting memos, control playbooks and standard templates covering performance obligations, variable consideration, contract modifications, cut-off, contract assets/liabilities and other key judgments.
Manage month-end processes for contract assets/liabilities, unbilled revenue, deferred revenue, retention and related reconciliations to project systems, billing schedules and general ledger balances.
Review progress-to-date, cost-to-complete and project margin inputs with Operations Finance teams to ensure appropriate revenue and cost recognition, timely escalation of risks and clear follow-through on corrective actions.
Conduct periodic refreshers and training for Business Units, Operations and Finance stakeholders to reinforce revenue recognition requirements, documentation standards and audit readiness.
Controllership & Compliance
Lead revenue-related month-end close and Group reporting activities in compliance with US GAAP, FRS and Group reporting requirements.
Review P&L variance analysis and Balance Sheet reconciliations for revenue-related accounts, ensuring appropriate accounting treatments, timely issue resolution and clear management commentary.
Own and strengthen SOX processes over revenue recognition, billing and contract accounting, including walkthroughs, control evidence, remediation of gaps and continuous improvement of control design.
Drive strong governance over contract set-up, billing cut-off, revenue adjustments and key accounting judgments, ensuring clear ownership and timely escalation of exceptions.
Statutory Reporting and Audits
Lead preparation and review of revenue-related statutory financial statement schedules and disclosures, ensuring completeness, accuracy and audit readiness.
Act as key finance liaison with external auditors and internal risk/compliance teams on revenue recognition, contract accounting and related control matters, ensuring timely resolution of audit requests and findings.
Prepare and review technical accounting documentation to support significant judgments, audit queries and management sign-offs.
Business Partnering
Partner with Business Units, Operations Finance and Controllership teams on contract performance, margin drivers, billing health, working capital, unbilled revenue, receivables and project tracking workbooks.
Provide proactive revenue insights and challenge assumptions where needed to support commercial discipline, accurate forecasting and sound financial decision-making.
Influence cross-functional stakeholders to align financial objectives with business priorities while maintaining compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
Process Improvement and Other Responsibilities
Identify process and control gaps across project accounting, billing, revenue recognition and close, and lead practical remediation with clear ownership and timelines.
Drive automation, standardisation and system improvements for project setup, billing, revenue recognition, reconciliations and reporting dashboards.
Develop and maintain scalable processes, templates and review routines to improve consistency, efficiency and control effectiveness across revenue-related activities.
Lead or support other finance-related projects and assignments as required, including regional or Group initiatives impacting revenue accounting and reporting.
About You:
Bachelor's degree in finance and accounting or equivalent with minimal 8-10 years of relevant experience.
Forward-looking: anticipates contract, billing, cut-off and revenue recognition issues early and drives preventive actions before they become reporting or audit matters.
Strong judgment: applies technical accounting knowledge and business understanding to assess complex revenue matters and recommend practical, well-supported solutions.
Ownership mindset: takes accountability for outcomes, follows through on issues and ensures stakeholders are clear on responsibilities and timelines.
Growth mindset: curious, eager to learn the business and standards, and open to feedback and continuous improvement.
Integrity: upholds high standards of ethics, accuracy and documentation; stands firm on compliance, controls and sound accounting principles.
Technically strong: confident interpreting and applying FRS 115 and translating requirements into clear accounting positions, review procedures and controls.
Detail-oriented: diligent with contracts, project data, reconciliations and documentation; spots exceptions and follows through to closure.
Hands-on leader: comfortable working in the details while guiding stakeholders, setting expectations and driving outcomes.
Collaborative influencer: builds trusted partnerships with Operations, Business and Finance; influences without authority and communicates clearly with senior stakeholders.
