Role Responsibilities
Do you love making meaningful connections between themes and the public? Are you experienced in unlocking the story behind an artifact with storytelling to create “aha” moments and engaging experiences for school aged audiences?
As the Learning Activator, you will ensure visitors and program participants at the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) unlock meaningful connections to the objects and stories within. This is achieved through the delivery of immersive programs (both facilitated and self guided) and world-class experiences.
In this role, you will work directly in the galleries/programming spaces of the Museum, ensuring RAM's spaces are lively and relevant with a diverse range of education, hands-on demonstrations, or guided tours.
As a Learning Activator, you will be an important part of bringing Alberta's history to life, creating meaningful experiences, and exceptional programs through:
Delivering engaging and dynamic programming and Learning experiences, using several techniques including (but not limited to) hands on activities, inquiry-based presentations, games, tours, and virtual programs.
Working with the Indigenous Engagement team to respect protocol and Indigenous ways of knowing are a part of program delivery.
Creating a welcoming and accessible experience for all program participants and visitors by incorporating a variety of interpretation techniques and instructional methodologies for varied audiences.
Gathering information to identify gaps and recommend strategies to strengthen visitors’ experience.
Providing administrative support, where required, to ensure programs are delivered smoothly.
Helping to ensure that programs at RAM are relevant, flexible, and adequately meet the needs of program participants by assisting with the review of learning programs for sound learning concepts and messaging that is clearly and consistently presented.
Working with other staff across the museum, delivering programming or education projects to ensure best experiences for the visitors.

University graduation in Arts, Education, Ecology, Museum Studies, Science Communication or other related field, no experience required.

Knowledge of current interpretive techniques for program development and delivery.
Knowledge and experience in presenting and developing programs to various ages.
Knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum is an asset.
Ability to interpret diverse topics to develop programs or different audiences.
Ability to prioritize tasks, to multitask effectively, to perform well under pressure.
Commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and providing the finest in client satisfaction.
Strong oral and written communication skills; including ability to interact effectively with a range of audiences and communicate complex concepts in user-appropriate language.
Presentation and facilitation skills.
Demonstrated initiative and creativity to implement new programs and initiatives.
Competent in Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, database and internet skills.
Bilingualism in written and spoken French and English.
Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.
We are recruiting one temporary (12 months) part-time position working 21.75 hours per week, schedule is Wednesday – Friday.
Work location is Edmonton.
