For Garden’s Sake is a family-owned garden center and landscaping company, in operation since 1999. We are continually growing, and offer customers a one-stop shop for plants, landscape design/installation, and lawn maintenance services.

THE POSITION:

We are seeking an experienced Landscape Designer to work with residential clients to conceptualize and design custom outdoor spaces, including gorgeous greenery, beautiful paver and stone designs, irrigation and lighting, and everything in between. We are looking for an innovative designer who can blend aesthetic vision with functional site planning and translate a homeowner's lifestyle and preferences into cohesive, constructible plans. The ideal candidate is not only skilled in design, but also in building relationships with clients and ultimately playing a key role in driving project sales. 

NOTE: This is not a city/suburban-planner role.

This is an in-office full-time year-round position with an estimated first-year total compensation of $80,000+, consisting of a $50,000-$60,000 base salary (commensurate with experience) plus commission.

We offer reimbursement for CE credits towards Landscape Contractors’ License and renewal as well as full benefits: paid time off and holidays; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; matching 401K; discounts at the Garden Center; and work-life balance. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Conduct on-site client consultations to provide design solutions and recommendations
  • Generate landscape designs utilizing AutoCAD, including softscaping, hardscaping, lighting, and drainage
  • Create design proposals and cost estimates for residential and commercial properties based on accurate field measurements and analyses
  • Serve as a primary contact for clients to foster relationships and close sales
  • Collaborate with support staff to advance personal design and project sales through client communication and design development, review, and presentation
  • Heavy focus on designing, client consultations, site visits, and revisions

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver’s license with no major infractions
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in landscape architecture or landscape design, or a demonstrated depth of horticulture knowledge from prior landscape design experience
  • Professional industry experience creating landscape and hardscape designs
  • Knowledge of horticultural materials suitable for North Carolina and proper planting techniques
  • Strong understanding of landscape construction products, methods, and procedures, including softscapes, hardscapes, grading, drainage, irrigation, and lighting
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; additional experience with Adobe Suite or 3D modeling programs a plus
  • Tech/computer proficiency and willingness to learn; familiarity with Google Suite and LMN estimating software a plus
  • Proven proficiency in increasing sales through lead generation and client relationships
  • Friendly, confident, and professional demeanor with a natural ability for cultivating positive relationships
  • Strong willingness, drive, and proactive approach to reach and exceed individual and company goals
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

Originally started by Chapel Hill resident JoAnn Davis, For Garden’s Sake is now owned and operated by Scott and Marsha Pearce who managed the day to day operations since 2010. Situated on a beautiful 20-acre site right on the Durham / Chatham county line. Our nursery boasts 2 ponds brimming with ducks, and goats for our guests to feed, and even a solar chicken coop. In addition to scenery and selection, we also offer everything you need to get your landscape done right; a truly a one stop for plants, trees, landscape design, and lawn maintenance services. So whether you’re looking to plant a single tree or you need help designing and landscaping a commercial office or apartment complex, the professionals at FGS can get you on your way.
