Perform daily cleaning of buildings and maintain the grounds of state facilities in the St. Johnsbury area. Work as part of the Operations and Maintenance Division to support state agencies and departments.
Requires at least one year of custodial experience including floor maintenance or one year as a BGS Custodian I. Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a criminal background check.
Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an entry level opportunity with room for growth as a Custodian II. This position will be working with a diverse and team-oriented group to maintain buildings in the St. Johnsbury area. Job responsibilities will be daily cleaning of the buildings and grounds work of the facilities.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 6:00pm. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a criminal background check are required.
BGS provides the facilities services required for all state agencies and departments to accomplish their missions. As part of the Operations and Maintenance Division you will be an essential team member and part of the largest division in BGS.

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state owned or leased buildings. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required.
One (1) year or more of building custodial work that includes floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.
One (1) year as a BGS Custodian I.
Some positions in this class require a valid driver’s license and own transportation for travel between work locations.
Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
