Lead the VAT compliance function for EMEA entities, overseeing the preparation and submission of tax returns and filings. Implement Vertex VAT software and drive automation and process improvements across compliance and upstream workflows.
Requires over 8 years of experience in European indirect tax compliance with deep technical knowledge across multiple jurisdictions. Must have proven experience in tax technology implementation, team management, and handling tax audits.
Your role
VAT compliance
· Lead the VAT compliance function and team for our EMEA Digital Realty entities
· Oversee the preparation, review and timely submission and payment of the VAT returns, EU Sales Listings and other indirect tax filings
· Ensuring all relevant VAT reconciliations are completed
· Manage indirect tax registrations, de-registrations, VAT grouping and compliance obligations in the relevant jurisdictions
· Develop and enhance process controls, identify risks and implement mitigating controls
· Support foreign VAT claims
· VAT compliance reporting e.g. VAT payable/receivables and significant quarterly changes
Tax Technology & process improvements
· Implementation of Vertex VAT compliance software including setting up key controls and KPI’s and ensuring correct VAT configuration
· Develop, document and implement process improvements with respect to compliance and upstream processes
· Drive further automation of VAT compliance processes
VAT (audit) support
· Support VAT audits (first line of response) and communicate with local tax authorities
· Prepare and coordinate responses to tax authorities’ information requests
· Provide training, guidance and support to finance and other teams
· Take responsibility for VAT operational questions from Finance (e.g. Account Payable, Accounts Receivable, Customer master data etc.) and business
· Involvement in VAT compliance related projects like e-invoicing, VAT reclaim on travel costs, Vertex tax determination software and other projects
· Managing external advisors
What you’ll need
· 8+ years of experience in European indirect tax compliance
· Deep familiarity and experience with indirect tax compliance across multiple European jurisdictions
· Solid tax technical knowledge of indirect tax
· Understanding of tax risk management and internal controls
· Proven experience in VAT compliance process automation and indirect tax technology
· Strong experience with VAT compliance software, ERP systems and reporting tools
· Accounting knowledge
· Strong numerical and analytical skills
· Experience managing a team
· Experience with tax audits
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and stakeholder management skills
