Caring for our city, creating a future for all
Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They’re motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision.
Be part of a purpose-led organisation with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.
About the role
The City’s Urban Analytics and Strategy Unit supports the social, cultural and economic life of the city. Within this Unit, the social strategy team oversees A City for All, our social sustainability policy and action plan. Reporting to the Manager, Social Strategy, you will provide research, analysis and advice on social sustainability issues and opportunities and work collaboratively to develop strategies and plans that inform services and programs. You will contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and the delivery of projects and programs, while also supporting the implementation of A City and ensuring alignment with the City’s broader social sustainability objectives. You will also support research and advice on matters including social infrastructure provision, social services and programs.
We’re looking for someone with:
a degree in Social Science, Social Research, Sociology, Public Policy, Social Planning or relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in related fields
proven knowledge and experience in addressing a broad range of contemporary social policy issues and social impact through research and strategy development
a strong ability to think conceptually, quickly absorb new information, and apply it to make sound decisions and solve problems
experience in developing policy, strategies, and implementation plans, as well as in designing, delivering and evaluating programs
a proven track record in preparing reports, submissions and high-level briefings on complex social issues and strategic approaches
demonstrated initiative and capability to lead and manage complex projects involving multiple senior stakeholders, from concept through to delivery.
This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
The recommended applicant must complete a pre-employment health declaration form.
Applications must be submitted online by 11:59pm, Tuesday August 25th 2026.
For more information, contact Vanessa Gordon, Manager Social Strategy on 02 9288 5821.
What we can offer you
You’ll work with passionate, welcoming and supportive people who care for our communities and create a future for all.
Flexible working
3 days of care and cultural leave each year for health and wellbeing activities, cultural and religious days or events of significance
Collaborative approach to flexible working
City centre head office, with many public transport options.
