Job DetailsJob Location: Hospice Savannah Inc. - SAVANNAH, GA 31406Job Summary: As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Chaplain uses experience, knowledge, judgment and skills to provide a program of pastoral support to patients and families during the terminal illness. Maintains patient confidentiality and promotes patient rights as supported by agency, state and federal directives. Identifies cultural diversity and lifestyle choices and non-judgmentally accommodates for such differences. The Chaplain is committed to the philosophy, goals and objectives of the hospice concept while consistently demonstrating the Hospice Savannah values and compliance with organization’s service excellence standards. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Divinity or equivalent graduate degree of theological studies with a minimum of two years experience in hospice or related field providing care and counseling required; Clinical Pastoral Education to include the completion of at least 2 CPE units required, but 4 preferred: Ordained, licensed or commissioned minister of a organized religion required; Member of clergy with an endorsement or letter of good standing from his or her denomination required; knowledge of intervention resources and appropriate utilization; Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation required. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to successfully interact with a diverse patient population, families, physicians, Hospice Savannah staff, and the community at-large along with excellent customer service and documentation skills required. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Outlook, and database knowledge required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires moderate visual concentration for patient charting/documentation and computer work. Position carries a risk of exposure to infectious diseases and requires skill in standard safety precautions. The Chaplain may be required to assist with ambulating or lifting a patient with or without the assistance of devices in excess of 75 lbs. utilizing proper body mechanics.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: A full-time position works a 30-40 hour work week, rotating days, evenings, or weekends, with occasional requests to work additional days/hours/holidays as needed. The Chaplain is required to participate in the rotating on call schedule and may be required to provide care in what has been determined by local authorities as a high-risk crime area and unsafe situations (potential or actual). This position encounters stressful situations with patients and their families regarding end of life care and the Chaplain must be able to accurately, timely and concisely document the patient/family encounter using a computer. Although each Chaplain may be designated to a specific department/region in our service area, at times they may be required to serve patients outside of their department/specific region. This position is required to perform patient visits utilizing their personal vehicle and may require extensive driving

Hospice Savannah, Inc. is a not for profit hospice founded by the community in 1979, offering a continuum of care from palliative support and caregiver support following the initial diagnosis of a serious progressive illness; hospice care when there is a prognosis of six months or less; and bereavement support for patients’ loved ones and for anyone in the community.
The only hospice in the Coastal Empire to be accredited by the Joint Commission we serve patients throughout Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Long and Liberty counties. It is a member agency of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, the National Partnership for Hospice Innovation and the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. It has affiliations with many academic programs in the Savannah area and offers education and residency opportunities for nurses, medical residents, social workers and more.
The homelike inpatient facility located at 1352 Eisenhower Drive is available to hospice patients for medical issues that cannot be resolved at home and provides respite for weary caregivers. Under the guidance of full-time medical directors, board-certified in hospice and palliative care, more than 125 volunteers and 125 full and part-time staff are committed to providing extraordinary care.
The Demere Center for Living at 6000 Business Center Drive is home to the Hospice Savannah Foundation and community-supported programming: Full Circle Grief and Loss; the Steward Center for Palliative Care and the Edel Caregiver Institute. The Foundation funds a full-time music therapy program and full-time massage therapy program and the hospice offers robust “We Honor Veterans” and “Pet Peace of Mind” programs.
