Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with vocational education preferred, and experience in mechanical inspections and repairs. A valid driver's license is required, with the ability to obtain a Class B license, along with a basic set of hand tools.

The role involves conducting comprehensive preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty tractors and equipment, ensuring optimal vehicle performance and safety. This technician operates a service truck, performing on-site inspections—often in challenging weather conditions—and is responsible for the upkeep of the truck itself. Duties include diagnosing and addressing vehicle breakdowns, replacing and adjusting worn or damaged components, and verifying repairs through test drives. Additionally, the technician handles tire services, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, maintains meticulous vehicle records, and manages costs effectively by utilizing warranties and evaluating service options.
