The Operations Supervisor is a frontline operations specialist and subject matter expert responsible for execution continuity, issue resolution, and process improvement within an assigned department in the operation. This is a dedicated individual contributor role embedded within a high volume, 3PL client environment. Rather than managing a team, this role owns the floor-level work of identifying gaps, tracking down root causes, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks, particularly during shift transitions and peak outbound activity.
This role continuously evaluates processes and results, identifying opportunities to improve service, efficiency, and cost. The Supervisor recommends and implements changes to optimize workflows, balance labor, and respond to shifting business needs. They closely monitor daily schedules and proactively adjust staffing, work assignments, and routes based on volume and priority.
Core responsibilities may include coordinating, overseeing, and at times performing activities related to receipt, storage, order fulfillment, loading, and/or delivery of inventory to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Operations Management:
Serve as the dedicated outbound operations specialist, monitoring workflow execution, identifying processing gaps, and driving resolution in real time.
Monitor and record productivity and accuracy for the assigned area, ensuring operational goals and service levels are met.
As needed, perform hands-on operational tasks such as receipt, storage, order fulfillment, loading, and/or delivery of product.
Own shift transition continuity - ensuring open tasks, unresolved issues, and in-progress work are documented, handed off, and followed through to completion.
Research and resolve operational discrepancies, service failures, and process breakdowns by working across internal teams and client stakeholders to identify root cause and corrective action.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with shift managers, operations leadership, and client-facing teams to surface recurring issues and support process improvement initiatives.
Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to leadership and contribute to ongoing operational development for the assigned account.
Safety & Compliance:
Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, SOPs, and company policies.
Conduct regular safety audits and provide ongoing safety training and reinforcement for associates.
Maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
May visit external customers to proactively identify potential business opportunities and/or conduct carrier reviews.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business needs and organizational objectives.
Customer & Business Support:
Maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
May visit external customers to proactively identify potential business opportunities and/or conduct carrier reviews.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business needs and organizational objectives.
Education and Experience:
Level of Formal Education: High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelors preferred
Area of Study: Experience in a production, logistics, transportation, or business-to-business distribution facility.
Minimum Years of Experience: 2
Type of Experience: Distribution, Transportation, or Operations preferred.
Special Certifications: Black Belt certifications in 5s or Dale Carnegie courses preferred
Technical Competencies & Information Systems: Microsoft Office
Skills & Abilities:
Strong communication and leadership skills, strong knowledge of warehouse and/or transportation operations and procedures, proven decision-making capabilities.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and drive issues to resolution without direct supervisory authority.
Additional Language Skills: English
Attributes & Other/Preferred:
Self-motivated, team player
Ability to set and manage expectations; observe and monitor work progress
Lead through change and deliver critical coaching and feedback on associate performance
Flexibility to meet the needs of the business
